Q: I am looking at replacing my kitchen floor, which currently has carpeting. (Bought the house like that.) And now I am looking to do either vinyl or tile. I understand tile is good for a lifetime, where as vinyl is good for 15-20 years for the heavier kind, but tile is double the cost. We plan on staying in our house a long time, if not forever, but in the case we would decide to sell, would tile or vinyl give us more value?: I've always been happy with vinyl sheet flooring. You drop something breakable on tile and that puppy's BROKE. You will never recoup the added expense of tile for resale purposes--so don't do it with that in mind--the color and style you choose will probably be out by then. A maintenance for the grout is a pain; unless you're obsessively scrubby, then it always looks dingy and dirty--I don't have time or inclination for that level of home care.. Vinyl's beautiful and durable nowadays, with it being relatively inexpensive, you could afford to replace it for fashion's sake if you like.

Q: We are wanting to get rid of old wood floors. We are debating tile vs. concrete finished floors. Pro/cons? What about cost difference.: Tile can cost from about $1 and sqaure foot plus, thinset and grout plus the cost to install it. If you do it yourself it's free of course if you hire someone then it can cost from about $2 a square foot on up. so, it depends on how manyh sqare feet you have. Concrete flooring looks okay. It has an industrial look. It cracks very often and costs around $3 a square foot according to a friend of mines estimate. I say go with tile. It's a lot easier to clean and more durable and lasts a lot longer.

Q: Can I go over the exixting tile,or do I have to remove the old tile first.There is ceramic tile there now,and I want to intsall new ceramic tile.I hope this doesn't sound like a dumb question.: You'll need to remove the old tile and grout.Clean and prep the surface before doing the new tile.

Q: i have vinyl tile in my dinning room(high traffic) its new but its not brillant ,and i saw a mantenance guy last night in wallmart using a buffer machine to pollish the tile..my question what kind of pad the used?they use any quimical with this pad?..how often this treatment its needed?: Wash the floor first, then use a soft buffing pad and some floor wax.

Q: im layng tile and the room is 13 long and 11 wide how many tiles would that take: 13x11=143 s/f. All tile is sold by the s/f and a lot of times by the whole box. So w/o knowing the size of tile your using or the box size we can t help other than giving you a total s/f of the room..
