- Q: after buying the motor home i found out that water from the water source in the rv park had been standing under the trailer for a long time. i was planning to move the home so thought this would be resolved but now do not know that i should move or keep this due to what looks like mold on the surface of the black plastic sheeting containing the insulation under the trailer. also, it s there a problem if water gets into the insulation? this is my first experience with a mobile home do not know who to ask. mobile home dealers have not been able to answer my question. please help.
- I can't see why mold on the exterior of the plastic sheeting should be a problem unless there's an enormous amount of it, if it's there because the underneath of the home didn't get enough ventilation. It could be cleaned off, and shouldn't recur if the next place you put it is dry. If water has gotten into the insulation above the plastic, that would worry me. Wet insulation doesn't work, and if the insulation is wet, there might be other water damage in other parts of the home which could be serious, since the water in the insulation most likely flowed down from somewhere. Is the plastic in good shape with minimal tears in it? If there are any tears, look at the insulation through them to see if you can see any evidence of it having been wet. Have a good look with a strong light under there, and you might be able to answer your own question. Also, though the dealers might not be of much help, there is probably someone in the neighbourhood who does repairs on mobiles, and it might be worth getting them to give an opinion.

- Q: I have an 08 Hyperlite Era board that has a big problem. the top plastic sheet is peeling off at the edges and it is dragging in the water bad. i dont want to buy a new board but i cant fix it. I have already tried a permanent epoxy-resin but it was destroyed after the first use. I am now thinking of shrink wrapping a resin type plastic onto the whole edge but i dont know what i am doing. - The easiest way is to joint compound over the peeled areas, then sand (wet sanding is much neater) prime and paint. If the damage is really bad, you'll have to cut out the bad piece, screw in a new one, tape the seams, then sand and repaint.
- Q: We are in the process of building a roof over our concrete 10x10 patio. We have put 2 4x4's on the front two corners and the other edge without 4x4s is attached to the side of the house. We are using 2x6's along the length of it as support along the top and then will top with 1x4's before putting on the roof sheets of our choosing. Our neighbor that has helped us used white plastic looking sheets on his roof of the same design (I believe the brand is tuftex?). When we went into the store the other day I noticed Green Metal Sheets (Tin I believe)... the price difference isn't really an issue but I want it to be decent quality at the same time... any suggestions or comments on the pros and cons of each? - It's going to come down to Durability and Sound. If you live in a salt free environment (more than 100+ miles from the Oceans or Gulf) then either will last 15-20+years. If you live in FL or CA then I'd go with the PVC. Sound is the other thing. Rain on tin is louder than on the PVC. (I prefer the tin because of the pitch of the sound it is relaxing to me. The shop where your going to buy may let you take two sheets and hit them with a hose to hear the differences.
