- Q: We are looking to buy a house and we‘re choosing between tile and hardwood floor. I prefer hardwood because I feel its easier to clean and more comfortable. Husband prefers the tile. Is it just personal preference or is one better than another, cleaning wise.
- cleaning hardwood floors or tile will more than likely be the same, cleaning wise. My personal preference is hardwood. They do have to be cleaned alot and you can feel any speck of dirt on them. I have tile floors in my kitchen and it is the same way. Sorry I don't believe this helps. compromise get both, my house has hardwood floors throughout and then in the kitchen and bathroom we have tile.
- Q: I am considering learning how to become a tile setter. Do any of you know if it is difficult for women?
- This is not a completelt difficult manual labor type of job. I'd say its a bit easier than working constrution or other labor jobs. My father owns a construction company and I've seen a hand of woman work for him with little or no problems. You can be anything you want, as long as you work hard and are dedicated to it. There's no reason you cannot set tiles as a living just becayse you are a woman. In fact, woman tend to do well with fields that require thinking and setting things up. - Q: we had our bathroom redone, it looks great but the guy that did it got some grout on one of the decorative tiles, where it shouldn‘t be. Is there a way to get the grout off ?
- It will depend on the skill of your personal observe. If you think it will look better you may try. After all it your house and the choice is yours. How it will look better you think and if necessary reinstall the tiles.

- Q: Anybody know of any apps/programs that give the user the ability to make custom sized metro tiles, similar to the windows phone?
- You can only choose tile sizes for Windows Store apps right now and you only get two sizes to choose from. Tiles for desktop programs only have one size. I downloaded the Windows 8 Blue OS that was leaked a few days ago and it allows 3 tile sizes for Windows Store apps. I was also able to make desktop program tiles one size smaller but who knows if that will carry over to the final release. - Dominic
- Q: I wanted to put ceramic tile over the linoleum (in good shape) in our bathroom (floor is concrete). Can I do this or do I need to remove all the linoleum? Thanks
- the difficulty with laying tile down is that if the floor is uneven in any respect (i.e., not completely flat) your helpful new costly ceramic tiles will harm! terrific to locate a place the place you are able to look below the linoleum and notice what's below it...yet, all that reported, that's why the pro will flow all the way all the way down to the sub-floor, get each little thing helpful and point, then placed down a million/2 cementitious backer-board (a million/4 for partitions, a million/2 for flooring) and then lay the tile. That way, that's worked out in improve despite the fact that if/if there will be a height difference between the recent tile floor and any flooring in rooms adjacent it...in any different case, that's oops, I tripped lower back. Spend the time, attempt and funds and do it precise.
- Q: Okay, I‘m doing a tub surround with porcelain tile. Got the last cut around the fixtures that requires a hole to be cut in the center of the tile. Long story short, I‘ve busted 22 tiles trying. I‘ve tried every single drill bit I‘ve got. Everything from metal hole punchers to concrete bits. Nothing even scratches this porcelain tile. Any tips on how to punch a hole in this tile? I‘m desperate!
- Diamond hole saws are available to cut holes in tile. Also tungsten saw blades which go into a hacksaw frame are available.
- Q: The tile I want to clean was built with the house back in the early 1900‘s but still in very good condition what would be the best way to clean that because its very dirty, and i think its porcealin. The second set of tile looks like it was put in back in the seventies but doesn‘t match the original tile at all, what would be the best way to change the color other than replacing it. Could i use pray paint?
- Generally I would recommend avoiding painting over tile. There are several excellent tile cleaning products available at your local hardware store; talk with someone at the store about your specific situation. If you MUST paint over the tile; you will want to treat it with some sort of an acid wash first to etch the surface so that the paint will stick. I strongly recommend that you put a couple coats of primer on first before you paint your color as the tile and grout will have notably different properties with respect to your painting job.

- Can be installed, to warm the tile tile heat transfer effect is better than strengthening the floor, the best are installed to warm, increased by 60mm or so.
