- As I am LOL I can still remember the time I used Stop Leak to get myself home when I was days away from where I lived. It did work and it was easier than constantly buying the oil as it was immediately leaking out. However, you do pay for it one way or another. If you now think with Stop Leak the jobs gets easier and cheaper, it doesn't. If I were you, I'd definitely go for the fix and work on borrowing money from a friend or relative or trying to make a deal with the mechanic. These days negotiation is more possible.
