Go for Metzelers. They have an excellent combination of handling, grip and wear characteristics. You shouldn't have any problem with 8,000 miles from the front, but that's a lot of miles to ask from a rear tire on a 1200 Sportster. Harleys are not particularly easy on rear tires, both because of the power pulses of a V-twin and the rearward weight bias of cruisers. You might get it if you're ALWAYS easy on the gas, but what fun would that be?

You can go to either companies website and type in your car information and they will show you what tires they have available. Best quality would probably be the name brands like Dunlap, BF Goodrich, Michelin, Goodyear, Firestone, etc. I've had good luck with the Douglas tires (cheap line) from Wal-Mart. They have lasted as long as more expensive brands that I have tried. The websites will show you pricing for the tire and then each place has a charge for new valvestems, mounting and balancing, etc. Depending on the size that price might be ok.

Q:My tires were filled with nitrogen. I had driven the car around for about 20 minutes before i topped it off with air. With the tires Hot i filled the tires to 35psi they are max rated at 44psi. If the tires were hot at 35psi what should i expect a cold reading to look like. One tire was around 26PSI. I accidentally let out to much air. Is the car safe to drive like this?: The tire pressure should be what the manufacturer placed on the sticker on the driver's side pillar (just behind the driver). That is what you should use for the best ride. Tire pressures molded into the tire are maximum ratings. There's about a 4-5 psi difference between hot and cold passenger car and light truck tires. You can drive for short distances at 26 psi. But correct the inflation pressure as soon as practical. Don't waste your money on nitrogen filled tires. Air is about 79% nitrogen anyway.
