- Q: My car is in desperate need of 4 tires because the current tires are cracking. I need to buy all four, but I don‘t have enough money to buy new ones. I can buy tires with 4-5/32 and 5-6/32 for about $30-$35 a piece. Is that acceptable? What do the numbers mean? Also, does it matter if I use four different brands of tires provided they‘re the same size?
- New tires usually have a tread depth measurement of 10/32 to 12/32 of an inch. the 4 and 5/32 of an inch tires you are considering are more than half worn. It is recommended that you replace tires once the tread depth is below 4/32. If you waste your cash on these used tires you'll be tire shopping again before the end of the year. Don't blow your cash.
- Q: What are the figures above the car tires?

The middle of the letter or symbol has a special meaning: "X" that high-pressure tire; "R", "Z" said radial tire; "a" that low-pressure tire.
- Q: Just found out my tire had a nail in it and need to find a place that will do it reliably. Any suggestions?
- Many Walmart TLE centers will NOT patch a tire for you. Take it to an independent garage or auto shop. They'll dismount the tire, put a patch and plug in it, and leak-test it before sending you back out on the road. Whatever you do, if you want to save the tire, do NOT put that Slime or Fix-a-Flat in it. Just drive on the spare until you can get the tire patched.
- Q: How aircraft tires differ from car and other road tiresin general?
- Very nice write up Eric! I might add that they are also filled with nitrogen because it expands less with increased temperatures.

- Q: I have a 2 part question about tire warranties. I purchased new tires from Sears, my first question would be if I sale my car will the new owner still get the lifetime tire rotation/balance and road hazard warranty I purchased with my new tires? My follow up question would be if I simply decide to keep the new tires and put them on my vehicle I just purchased would I still get the tire rotation/balance and road hazard warranty since its not the original vehicle the tires were installed on?
- This Site Might Help You. RE: Lifetime tire balance and rotation? I have a 2 part question about tire warranties. - Q: I‘ve just pumped up my beach cruiser tire for the first time and realized that part of the front tire is popping out of the wheel. Do I need a new tire? It looks like the tube inside is too big for the actual tire, but only in a 5-8 inch section of the wheel. Both tires feel fully inflated, no different from any other bike tire I‘ve pumped up. Wish I could explain it better.I don‘t know much about bikes (clearly).
- Deflate the tire. Tuck the tire all the way back into the rim where it is poking out then pump it up again. As you fill the tire make sure that the tire stays on rim. You may need to hold down on the tire as you fill it. Before the tire reaches full pressure stop pumping and grasp the tire with both hands from the side and rock it back and forth on the rim while pushing it down onto the rim. Do this all the way around. This will assure that the tire bead is seated on the rim. Good luck!
- Q: I bought some new front tires for my car (2010 kia forte) a little over a year ago. I expected them to last at least 40k miles, but when I went into my neighborhood tire shop to get them rotated, they told me the tires needed to be replaced. This is at about 20k miles of use. My rear tires are a little older and don‘t have much life left in them either. They didn‘t rotate them, but I opted not to get new tires yet until I asked these questions. My question:How long should a typical tire last? Are my driving habits making me lose life in my tires at a shorter rate? I drive normally to work, home and social locations across the city, but we do encounter quite a bit of traffic.Do I need an alignment of some sort?I am contemplating going ahead and getting all new tires this weekend, but I want to make sure I don‘t need to do anything additional to ensure the life of my tires because replacing them every year will be a pain!!!Thank you in advance!
- Regardless of the stated warranty tread wear can vary greatly from tire to tire. Tire quality is extremely different from model to model. Even if your alignment is true getting only 20k miles out of a pair of tires is not outside of what to expect. If you bought inexpensive tire a year ago you got exactly what you paid for. Quality tires are simply too important to go cheap.
