- Q:How do solar panels affect the electrical grid?
- Solar panels affect the electrical grid by supplying clean and renewable energy. When solar panels generate excess electricity, it can be fed back into the grid, reducing the overall demand for fossil fuel-based power generation. This helps to stabilize the grid and reduce carbon emissions. However, the intermittent nature of solar power can create challenges for grid operators in managing variations in supply and demand.
- Q:want to add solar panels to manufactured home, and we get a lot of snow up here in the NW. Wondering if it would interfer with the roof load.
- A single hexagonal solar panel weighs around 0 to 2 pounds (see link). A conventional silicon solar panel might weigh 40 pounds.
- Q:Can solar panels be installed on satellites?
- Yes, solar panels can be and are often installed on satellites to generate electricity from sunlight for powering the satellite's various systems and instruments.
- Q:i check the diodes in the backside of solar panels it reads out to be 0.433 each give me the same result but i was amazed when i check out the last two one which on clamp meter screen give me ''0L'' what this means? is that diode have malfunctions??is this reasons that the output of solar has been decreased?
- First of all, make sure that you are taking readings in the dark (with the solar panel indoors and covered). 0.433 is a reasonable forward voltage for a Schottky diode. Ideally, it diode should read open one way (possibly OL for your meter), and 0.4 the other way. If it's reading OL both ways, the diode is bad. You can either unsolder it or cut it out and verify that it is bad.
- Q:So lets say that Everyday I use ,280 kWh. How many 250 watt solar panels would I buy so that I don't need to buy electricity anymore. Sorry if this sounds stupid, I am doing research on why american homes should become more cost efficient.
- Everyday I use ,280 kWh 280 kW-hour / 24 hours = 470 kW WOW, that is a very high power level, most homes use an average of .2 kW. My guess is that you mean you use 280 kW-hour in a year, which comes to an average power of .3 kW, typical. Assuming you get, worse case, 6 hours of sun per day, for the first case, 470 kW, each solar panel generates the equivalent of 250 x6/24 = 60 watts, so you would need 470k/60 = 8000 panels For the second case, .3 kw or 300 watts, divided by 60 that is about 20 panels. Depending on where you live, you could need as much as twice that number. Plus you need charge controller, lots of expensive batteries, and an inverter. The big problem is periods of no sun. If you demand continuous power, and you have a period of, say, 24 hours with no sun because of storms, etc, then the number of batteries increases to the hundreds.
- Q:how much energy does solar panels save you? (like a month, year, etc)
- It depends on the size of the solar panels and the intensity of the solar-light. So, there's difference in every place. It's impossible to answer unless there's detail of panel size, panel quantities, average rainfall, average solar days, etc.
- Q:If a solar panel is a .5kW system, what length of time is it putting out that much power? Every hour?
- I think it refers to the maximum power it is capable of. Of course, it won't really have this output because it's energy output (kWh) is dependent on it's energy input...
- Q:We are thinking about useing solar panels for our house.Does anyone know about solar panels? If so could you please tell me some information on them, and the cost for a home,to install them.
- It depends on what you want to do with the solar panels, Heat your water , heat a pool or spa, or to make electricity to use instead of that supplied by the power company. The first three are fairly easy and straight forward. Depending on the amount of water that needs to be heated, the location you live at in relation to the equator and the location of the solar panels and piping . The panels for this applicatin are 00s of feet of piping that absorbs heat from the sun and circlate it. The panels them selves are sort of inert and can be very heavy when filled with water.. Makeing usable power to replace the power company is a real problem because among other things solar cells create DC voltage. A house runs on AC voltage. So all of the items to heat water still apply, location, placement, etc. But now we have to figure hrs of sunlight the output of the cells running the power to a transformer to transform the voltage from 2 volts DC to 20 volts DC and then running the power thru a converter to change it from DC to AC at each point ( transformer converter ) there is a loss of power do to a change in current. After all of the above if a cloud comes by your power will stop, and at night you will have no power. The fix for that is storage cells AKA batteries which store the power until you need it, like night time. The glamor of a all solar powered home is great,, but it isn't practical. So What to do, You eliminate the battery storage, and also hooking up the power to your home. You feed it right into the power companys wiring and guess what? The electric meter on you house runs back wards your send more power to them during off peak times that your using. For every dollar the meter runs backward you get a free dollars worth when you need it. This is a way of storing the power as credit with the power company instead of batteries Its a lot to understand and I hope I helped
- Q:If not how do they give power to a house/a company?
- They are wired into the power system much like the normal power from the local power co. That is simply stated as it can be a complex system with switching cercuits and computer control. Most home systems are more simple and in many cases the solar pannels realy only charge batteies. The ones that use them directly only feed them to certain curcits while the rest run off of the local power company. Solar systems still can't supply a lot of current so it takes a bunch of them to get much usable wattage.
- Q:I want to get a solar panel to run a fan (or two) for swamp coolers.I'm not looking to power 20box fans, just maybe some of those auto fans. What the heck kind of panel do I need? What is a power inverter and what does it do?Will I lose all my power if I use a 00' extension cord? How do I choose what I'm going to need?
- Here is one that can work for a small swamp cooler, but if you want to build a larger one, use multiple fans. This model uses .4 amps at 2 volts DC. 2 X .4 = 5 watts. You'll want about 6 watts per fan for the panel, so if you had 4 of these fans, at 5 watts each, look for a 25 watt or so sized panel. The panel should have a Volts Open Circuit (Voc) rating around 8 volts, that is normal for a 2 volt system. Then you can just wire the fans, in parallel to each other, to the output of the panel. I read an article in Home Power Magazine about a guy who did this to ventilate his crawl space. He only wanted the fans to run when it was dry weather outside, like when it's sunny. The panel not only powered the fans, but were perfect for sensing when it was sunny. You can do the same thing with the swamp cooler. This fan was clipped from Marlin Jones website, they sell small electronics and such, the link is below. They do not sell solar panels, but I've found OKorder to be a great source for them. We have two small arrays here that run LED lights in parts of our home, and charge cell phones, ipods and small electronics. Take care Jorge, Rudydoo
