Q: Dear Sir/Madami have question regarding installing tiles 30*30cm*2.5cm thick for hall and rooms my question is whats the min. and Max. cement mortar must be placed under neath tiles (i.e bond coat in between concrete slab and tile )please advice and thank for help and appreciated: If you're using ceramic tiles (very regular size and relatively smooth/even back), use a 1/4 square notched trowel, held somewhere between 45 and 90 degrees (vertical). If you're using natural stone tiles (e.g. granite, marble, slate), go for 3/8 square notched trowel and back-butter the tiles. Make sure the concrete slab is clean, sound, free of cracks and level before you start and follow the instructions for your thinset. You'll likely want to use a modified thinset which will help bond to the concrete better. If you have any doubts about the stability of your slab, consider installing an isolation membrane between the tile and slab. Schluter's Ditra system is the best of the breed for this. If you use an isolation membrane, use unmodified thinset (instead of modified).

Q: I want to put ceramic tile in my dining room, my room is 12' x 11'. So how would I go about deciding how many tiles I would need? The tiles are 12x12. But for ceramic tiles dont you have to leave space in between them?: First measure the room from wall to wall.Length and width.Multiply the numbers.This gives you square footage.Add another 15 square feet for cutting and breakage.Tiles are sold per square foot not amount.Space in between does not matter in calculation.This is up to you.If you want a more full look make space smaller.This is easier for maintenance(cleaning).1/4 inch is normal, 3/8 is big.The bigger the space it's harder to grout plus will cost more in grout.Make sure to use grout similar colour to tile.If your floor is wood underneath then you have to fasten it so it does not vibrate and then lay a wire mesh before putting on the tile.This is important,if you do not do this the tiles will crack.To remove them costs more than putting them on.

Q: my tiles are filthy....theres white dust every where and I guess what ever they used to patch the wall or something on the floor....I swept and mopped but it still looks horrible.: tile lab makes a heavy duty cleaner and stripper for tiles you can try that.

Q: How I can install ceramic tile on a wall and what tools do I need to do so? Any other tip that I should know about it to do a good job would be appreciated.: I've been working construction with my father since I was 5. You will need, the little plastic x's that are spacers, compound, tiles (obviously), water a sponge and optional a straight line lazer, a spatula and a long spatula with teeth, and a tile cutter, and measuring tape. First, put up the lazer to form the straight line where you want it. Next mix the compound with the amount of water you need, read the instructions on the back. Apply the mixture to the wall with the spatula, next put up the tile and if needed measure and cut the tiles to how you need them in order to fit. use the plastic x's as spacers to have them equally spaced out. after you have put up all the tiles wait at least 30 minutes to an hour for the compound to dry then with the grout of your choice apply it to the tiles and get them in between the cracks good. let it dry and then with the sponge wet it and clean the tiles so that it looks nice and thats all.

Q: We had glass tile installed in our kitchen and it looks wavy. Our installer said it was an optical illusion which I disagree with. I noticed it as it was being installed and that he did not use spacers. Wouldn‘t that have allowed the tiles to move before they were grouted?: Spacers keep the gaps between tiles uniform - they don't affect the height of the tile with respect to the wall. A good installer would absolutely use spacers on a vertical surface, as the setting compound, like most concrete and concrete-like material, behaves like a gel; it becomes rubbery and remembers where it was before you push on it. One can watch a misaligned tile slowly slide back almost into its original position after attempting to straighten it out - it MUST be held stationary for a minute or two, and since most tile setters don't want to hold a single tile for that amount of time, they use spacers to do it for them. If there are only a few tiles that are particularly bad, make him remove and reset them. Hold a straightedge against them and take a picture of the job. Then if he balks at fixing it, you could ask if he'd like to see what a small claims court judge might say about the need for payment (or the return thereof). Nine times out of ten, the contractor will fix the problem rather than deal with court.

Q: 16 by 16 tiles: Tile labor varies a bit from area to area, but you can figure in the $7 a s/f range for basic labor , thin set, grout and 1/2 cement board , which is generally need when installing over the common wood sub floors. Tile isn t figured in this price since a plain , average or discontinued tile can go from $1 a s/f to a very nice tile in that size at 4$ a s/f Extras such as rip out/ disposal and any floor prep isn t included either. Q: I have installed tile around my shower and and ready to fill in the gaps between the tile. Grouting looks messy and I don‘t know how to do it. Is there a grout that comes in a tube that can be put into a caulk gun? Can I just caulk the whole thing? This one is new to me so any help is appreciated!!!: Use grout to fill the gaps between your tiles. Work in with a rubber float on a 45 degree angle. Press in hard. Wipe off excess grout from tile with a damp sponge. Use silicone caulk in the corner joints to allow for expansion.

Q: tiles to be applied in tub surround and ceiling: Most of your thinsets are a latex thin set. Glass tile needs the step above this type. Always use a white thin set. Ceilings are a bit trickier since you ll need a good mastic . There are special techniques to do this but you asked for the best material. White extra modified latex thin set.
