If you want to hear some real, true metal, go search into the central european melodic metal scene, like: Hammerfall, Blind Guardian, Helloween, Sonata Arctica, Gamma Ray, Falconer, Edguy, Freedom call, Firewind, Nocturnal Rites....

- Metal is difficult to describe but i can see where you're going in saying that linkin park and three days grace are not. i think the best way to describe heavy metal is the fact that it is a non-conforming genre of music. since it's birth with black sabbath to the mainstream success of metallica and far into the future it has always remained the same, sound wise and usually lyrically. many of these bands that are considered metal especially the nu metal bands changed there sound as the years went on; korn was nu metal but them they became more industrial rock, linkin park was nu metal then they became more pop rock oriented. on the other hand you look at a bands like dio, iron maiden and megadeth they have stayed the same throughout their careers. that's probably my best description of heavy metal i can give you.

- I listen to Metal and I absolutely hate the terms Metal-Head Headbanger, I don't fit the stupid stereotype. My head isn't made out of metal, and I don't bang my head either. I like the music, simple as that, not the stereotyping sub-culture of the genre. So no, not all Metal listeners have to be labelled.

Glam in the 80s Grunge in the early 90s Groove in the mid-90s Nu Metal in the late 90s Metalcore in the early 2000s Deathcore in the late 2000s Somehow metal has always bounced back... and even during those eras, there have always been good bands within bad genres (except deathcore, I have yet to hear a deathcore band that doesn't blow). Although I see a bit of a problem with deathcore... When glam died, people stopped buying glitter and hairspray. When grunge died, people threw out their flannel... What's gonna happen with all these deathcore kids who are tattooed from chin to sphincter and have holes in their ears the size of quarters? You really think these douche bags are gonna be able to transition into a life of normalcy after the **** they've done to their bodies? fc00.deviantart /fs39/f/2008/3... By looking like that they've unanimously decided to proclaim to the world I have nothing to contribute to society so I'll have to devote myself to music, but the crap they write is one of the most ******* awful sounds that has ever qualified as music. It literally scares me that deathcore might have more staying power than the other ephemeral pseudo-metal genres like glam.
