- I read everything I could on how to do it. I went to hardware stores and ask questions. I planned, measures, check cost and decided when to do it. When I finally started, It took me about a month (I had to work) But I got it done. I found great information on line and was able to copy it. Read it over and over until I knew how to do it in my sleep. It turned out great.
- Q: We are laying 18 x 18 porcelain tiles in our kitchen for an open house we‘re having in 6 days. We can‘t figure out when and how to tile under the refrigerator. Do we have to move the refrigerator into another room? Can we wait two days for the mortar and grout to set firm and move the refrigerator onto the newly installed tile so we can lay tile where refrigerator will go? If we do that, should we then wait 24 hours for that tile to set so we can move the refrigerator back into place?What is the best way to handle the installation? I would appreciate any thoughts on how this is most ideally done.
- 1. Should have been done days ago. 2..Under present circumstances I would install all tile EXCEPT beneath the fridge. 3. Then, after open house, newly laid tile will have had a least a week for the adhesive and grout to fully set and cure, 4. Gently tilt the fridge backward to raise the front wheels [or casters or whatever] off the floor 5. Install a metal sheet [the thickness of the new tile and mortar and the width of the casters (wheels) under the fridge] under the front of the fridge and butted up against the new tile. This is to protect the edge of the new tile when you gently roll the fridge out of its cubbyhole in the cabinetry, 6. Remove the old floor covering, and clean and prep the floor. 7. Install the mortar and new tile, leaving the fridge out until the tile has set, and then 8. Replace the fridge.

- 13x11=143 s/f. All tile is sold by the s/f and a lot of times by the whole box. So w/o knowing the size of tile your using or the box size we can t help other than giving you a total s/f of the room.. I can‘t pretend they have any historic value, or even were particularly well laid, so on balance should I1) Replace with new tiles, perhaps up to a higher standard2) Get a specialist to restore them to something approaching their original stateWhich will cost more, and what would you do?
- My opinion? Replace. I believe you would not be happy with the restoration since they were not laid properly in the first place. Doesn't matter which costs more if. in the end, you are unhappy with the results.

- Replace the old ceramic tile with a new countertop. It is not very expensive if you get Formica. Check all the new patterns and styles they have. Like I said, it is the least expensive thing you can do for your kitchen and makes a world of difference to the looks of your kitchen. We had ours done a year ago and I couldn't be happier.

- Q: Meaning, I was just wondering if you can lay a thin set of mortar then place vinyl tiles on it, and then grout it? This mabye a stupid question and most people would say why not just use real tile if your going to go through all that trouble, but just wondering?.Thanks
- Vinyl tile you use glue. Some have the glue adhesive on the back, some you have to put the glue down your self with a 1/8 or 3/16 trowel. And like the other person stated they are very thin, meaning if you did try and set them in mortar and one little piece of mortar didn't mix good after a few weeks of use and maybe not that long that will create a lump and eventually ware through your vinyl. Don't even think about being able to grout. Now I have used glue with ceramic tile in certain cases. I don't recommend that either though. I use liquid nails or a pl 400 type glue in a tube to do risers on a stairway but the treads I used mortar. If you go to Home depot or Lowe's and pick out what type of flooring they should be able to lead you in the right direction on the glue vs mortar. good luck. you can do it
