Q: my floor tile has a crack so i replaced one tile with the same exact tile but but the new tile looks different how do i make the new tile look like the old tile
Try to select such colors which matches the old one so that looks same. If still not working then take help from experienced professionals.
Q: i have tiles in my bathroom witch are painted(not me was like that wen i moved in) was wondering if i cud wallpaper or tile over them
Buy some stuff from the paint store called ESP this when painted on, allows you to paint over the top.And lasts too.
Q: Ok so our bathroom is old and crappy and the faucet in the shower always come off. I was taking a shower and when i went to put back the body wash it fell and must have landed on the faucet and the faucet came off and two tiles along with it. The tiles are broken into little pieces. My mom is gonna be mad but it wasn‘t even my fault im so scared =(
This must be wall tiles. Just tell mom what happen and then mom will know how it happen and get it fixed, They may have to remove few more tiles to fix this if same tiles are not available. It is time to fix the faucet too. Just do not let her find out on her own that it is broken. She may lecture you a little but that is the part of growing up(fault or no fault), but if you do not let her know then you will have more water damage and she will be more mad at you becase it will cost lots more to fix.
Q: My kitchen has a white ceramic tile floor. It never looks clean, every speck of dirt shows. Because we live in a slab home, the tiles are glued right to the concrete. I hate to think how much work it would be to remove them. I could tile over - but it would make the kitchen floor higher than the surrounding rooms. Is there any suitable product for changing the color of the tile in such a high traffic area?
Have you considered a tile cleaning service? Replacing would take about a week. I would not tile over existing tile. There are products that can be applied over your existing tile that look exactly like a tile floor, but the process costs about the same and takes just as long as re-tiling. Also the person doing it really has to know what they are doing or the job can look terrible. Holmes on Holmes just did a show on the process and it appeared a bit complicated and does not allow much room for error. I'd either get them professionally cleaned or removed and re-tile.
Q: I have an on going problem in my kitchen. Same time tile floor was done in our home but kitchen is the problem. It was done 3-4 years ago by a contractor, however he never showed up his face to help us. He left some grout with us and said if ever the grout pops up then we can mix it in the water and fill with this mixture. The grout from the kitchen floor always comes out. Underneath, the kitchen is wood floor. The kitchen is on the second floor. Our family room is also on the second level but no problem to that floor Please help.
When the tile was laid it didn't have enough mortar/thin set put underneath some tiles...If so then the tiles shift and the grout cracks..I am a 37 year experienced painter, but have done all phases of construction work..I was once being a helper for a regular tile man when the painting was slow, and he had a contractor that before he paidd them , walked around with a golf ball and from a little over waist high he dropped a golf ball on each and every tile..The ball will respond on a properly laid tile and bounce back with a good solid sound..when he reached one that did not bounce all the way back and made a hollow thud sound..he marked that tile and Brian had to pull it and replace it before receiving his check on a completed job.. The best tile layers will possibly have 3 or 4 in a house without enough thin set under them, but a poor tile layer can have 40 or 50 in a house improperly done..TRY THE GOLF BALL TEST yourself and see..before deciding on the points here..I bet one of the tiles on an area where the grout is coming up..will give you that hollow thud..keep in mind there are at least two tile next to the grout, if not 4 if near a corner..I just bet ...get a cheap golf ball and try this..You will see what I'm talking about..You can literaly pull any imporoperly laid tile up if careful without breaking it.. scrape the thin set off..and same for the thin set on the floor..and reset the tiles...Go through test all your tiles..then put one of them flourescent garage stickers on each improper one..then reset them
Q: We bought the tile. Our wall has new drywall behind (unpainted and clean). We are putting the tile from above the backsplash to under the wall cabinets. Can you please answer my questions:1) Do you prep the walls with anything? We bought this tub of stuff called Thinset... Is this the actual adhesive or is there something else used to put on afterward?2) We are doing our longest wall with counter and sink/window then corner and over to counter and stove then counter. Where would the starting point be? Corner or one wall?3) The wall cabinet on the open end is about 1/2 inch in then the base cabinet right below. If we start the tile from the bottom, when you get to the top, the tile will hang out from the wall cabinet by the 1/2 in. Do we use a straight line from the wall cabinet or base cabinet and it be off either way? 4) The tile is not coated or shiny. Once they are applied to the wall and then grouted and wiped clean, do you apply any coating?
1 - Thinset is the adhesive. You do not need to prep drywall with anything. 2 - You should measure the entire length of where you are tiling. Then divide that in half. That is your starting point. You'll want to lay out the tiles before actually attaching them to make sure you have at least 1/2 tile on either end when you are finished. If you have less than 1/2 tile on either end, move your center point one way or the other. The final centerpoint will be the space between your first two tiles. 3 - Do a straight line from the cabinet that sticks out more. You'll then need to trim the tiles when it narrows but it won't be noticible with only 1/2 inch. 4 - If it's for your wall, you don't need any coating. If it was going to be your countertop you'd need a clear sealant.
Q: When the stick on tiles have come loose you get ready to re-glue them. What exactly do you clean the cement under neath them or do you just scrape it clean?
Acetone is a very strong solvent that will kill and loosen most adhesives. It will burn and dry out skin so use some chemical resistant gloves when using ( same with xylol or most other chemicals). If the tile are good and you just want to re-glue them, I'd suggest using some vinyl glue adhesive to glue down the tile. That will probably be your best glue to use. Just make sure to read and follow the instructions because the good glue works like a contact glue - it must dry for a while before laying the tile. I hope that this helped you out.
Q: I bought a co-op that is 80 years old and the bathroom is all original. I like the antique look of it but the tile and in the tub is grungy and has stains. I have tried Pine Sol and Comet but they haven‘t helped much. Does anyone have any advice that doesn‘t involve renting power tools and grinding the floors up?HELP.
Can't help with the tub as I've no experience with that. For the floor, after giving it a good clean, try a steam cleaner like Karcher. It works a treat on floor and wall tiles. They aren't cheap (ours cost over ?140) but WELL worth it as it can be used to clean all sorts of stuff that doesn't mind water (non-porous things).
Q: Can you put ceramic tile over the commercial grade hard plastic vinyl tile? It would be really hard to break up off the floor. It is stuck on there really good.
It wouldn't hold up very well if you put it right on top of the vinyl floor, but if you screw down some thin wonder board it would work just fine. If you are tiling the kitchen or bathroom you run into problems with raising the floor such as doors not opening and appliances being raised above the counter tops. And if you tile in front of the appliances it will be a pain to get them out if you ever needed to replace them (dishwasher)
Q: For example, in the store will see the cloud of stone bricks, microcrystalline stone bricks and other labels, how is this classification of it? What are the different types of their performance? Humbly ask for advice, thank you!
According to the material sub-ceramic brick, stoneware brick, porcelain tile. Surface treatment sub-glazed tiles, polished tiles, throw glazed tiles, semi-glazed tiles, antique tiles, seepage tiles.
