Q: I am going to be removing ceramic tile in my kitchen and was wondering what the easiest way to go about it was? I was going to use a hammer and a flat ended screw driver, what do you think?
the thing i have found about removing tiles is that you i am never able to remove them without breaking them so i think just go with your insticnts and get the hammer and chizzel to it.
Q: I am looking at removing the existing wooden fire place surround (not a mantel, but some decorative wood surrounding the fireplace), and the 70‘s fireplace hearth, and replacing each with some nice slate tiles. The slate would be attached to the wall, and to the floor. Is there anything I should know when attaching (slate) tiles to a wall? Do I need to remove any paint, or can I get an adhesive that will bond (PL Premium or regular mortar mix?). How close should the grout lines be with slate? I know with marble you want them close, and with ceramic you can have some space. How do you ensure the tiles don‘t slip when attached to a vertical wall. Sorry for the questions, but I do appreciate any suggestions and answers!
I would definitely remove the paint. Use a ceramic tile type of adhesive not mortar.Use a coarse notched trowel The grout lines should be as close as possible. It will look better not to be a contrasting color, better a black or grey. To keep the slate from slipping, you just will have to lay a few at a time, let the adhesive set up and do some, more and so on. You will get an idea of how many to do at a time by just working with them.
Q: How to paste tiles better
Fight color processing. The contrast of the tiles gives a strong first impression. Usually in white or other light-colored tone, for the color of the tile color slightly deeper, and with the flowers and decorative lines of color is commensurate, such as white lining blue, beige with light brown and so on. Fight the color of the method can be in the waist below the lining of another slightly darker color; also available two-color tile to play the grid, the specific spelling to see the personal mind.
Q: China 's top ten brand tiles
2016 Chinese tiles top ten brands include: 1 Marco Polo Tile, 2 Dongpeng tiles, 3 Nobel tiles, 4 new in the source of tiles, 5 crown beads tiles, 6 rudder tiles, 7 Faenza tile, 8 Wrigley Ceramic, 9 Anhua tiles, 10 Crane Ceramics.
Q: HiIs there an adhesive that can be used to spot repair Vinylfloor tiles 18x18 on a basment floor?
I definitely think that it is. A basement does not have to be as decked out as the rest of the house although it can be. There are really nice vinyls now a days that you can choose from so take your time and research well before you purchase. You will be glad that you didn't spend an arm and a leg and still got something nice. Hope this helps and God Bless!
Q: Watercolor strokes on how to remove tiles
With nail polish, I tried, get up to their own will be lost
Q: I have to remove the old tiles and install new ones. Please can someone who does this for a living guide me in the right direction?
Remove the old tile and dry wall or what ever wall board is behind the tile, put up a vapor barrier, reset a cement board product and tile. Tile with a thin set , never a mastic in this type of area. This is a general guide to the basics, you need more specifics, since its to much detail to go in here...E mail me through my avatar and check my qualifications there. GL
Q: How long are ordinary white strip tiles?
There are four general specifications: 8 × 40 12 × 45 40 × 60 Commonly known as kicked tiles.
Q: Following on from my previous question about tiles... I had asked if it's better to remove them or tile over the top. At that time, I thought they were bedded in the same stuff as the bathroom tiles were upstairs which was a very fine and compacted sandy stuff that was not set. However, after trying to remove a couple of the mosaic floor tiles in the kitchen, it seems they are bedded in the actual concrete floor itself !!! and instead of being able to remove them, it just chips the tile and breaks off the surface somewhat. They're extremely difficult to remove so: Will my new tiles be completely ok if set on top of these? can you please let me know how to prepare them and what to look out for?Height-wise it doesn't matter, I'll simply order shorter doors. I'm really concerned about the long term strength because it's a kitchen that will get a lot of use / humidity/ etc...Thank you
You can set tiles over tiles . You ll need to get a thin set that is modified to do this. Check on the back of the bag it will tell you . The price will give it away too lol.Tiles must be clean and oil free of course. The one step some people don t do that I do every time I do this. You must wait a day or two extra before going in and walking and grouting these tiles. The thin set needs extra drying time since moisture in thin set can t go any where. If your doing it your self no problem. If some one else does it ask them to do it on a friday and grout on monday. Or if that can t be worked out , have them do it and possible go do another small job and come back in a couple days to do it. Any questions you can e mail me GL
Q: I just grouted the ceramic tiles I laid in my kitchen. The grout was supposed to be a dark maroon color, but it turned out a whitish powdery color (efflorescence). What is the main cause of this...it can't be water coming from underneath the tiles because the basement is underneath the kitchen floor...unless it came from the mortar under the kitchen tiles. How do I get rid of the efflorescence. Grout cleaner didn't work...should I use salfamic (spelling?) acid and scrub the grout lines? Can J just refloat new grout over the existing grout? HELP...I need to put my base cabinets in, but I can't stand looking at my floor the way it is.
You need to go to a regular tile shop and get the cleaner made for this. The cause of it can be many , for not mixing enough to washing it w/ to much water during grouting. Regular grout cleaner won t cut it. There are several brands that do this so going to XYZ tile place and asking for something they may not have that brand but a brand they use on occasion or a brand available to them. HD does carry a bottle called Remove by Hydroment . You may want to try that And you cannot just grout over it the grout will not adhere and stay, it doesn t have enough to grab onto. Any questions you can e mail me GL
