Q: I have a cabin that is way out in the middle of no where, it would cost 000's of dollars to get power to it. If I have a 8,000 BTU air conditioner that runs on 25 volts and 5 amps (or 875 watts)How many solar panels will I need to run this during the day, plus charge the batteries to run it all night? How many batteries would I need
You are probably going to need about 60 panles and 60 batteries....you will also need a very good power inverter. Also consider the power it takes to invert 2 volt DC battery power in to 20 volts AC power required for an air conditioner. You might consider also trying to find a 2 or a 24 volt unit cooler. You would be better off buying a generator. Solar panels and batteries are not going to run an air conditioner for long if at all.....it might be cheaper to have the power company run the power.
Q: can anyone help me? i was thinking of installing solar panels to cut bills but would it be a waste considering its gonna need a circulating pump running almost 24/7 (which will use electricity) and even still will only provide me with quot;warmwater? also would it be possible to install the solar panels for the sole purpose of providing sufficient power to run electric heaters instead of using gas/oil? this way allowing me to have a warm house without the expensive bills. brobably talking about running 7 heaters/electric radiators.
A thermal solar panel to feed your water heater is the most efficient. But you need a classic heater system too when there is no or little sun. Solar panels to heat a home is not at all recommended. First of all, you get less day light and less sun in winter, so you won't get much electricity. They work best in summer, but electric panels have poor yields and are a very long term investment. You will need to wait years before saving money. Natural gas, a well isolated home, and a good old sweater is the best way to cut bills.
Q: Hi.How efficienent are solar panels? I mean, suppose we install a kw panel.. Wil it produce 5kw in 5 hours of good sun light?Or like if its 80 percent efficient, wil it produce 4kw and so on.Also, do the chinese solar panels give the same results as compared with panels from other countries?I live in india, so we get plenty of sunlight during the day. Thanks
The panels themselves efficiency are 5 to 8 percent at converting sun energy to electicity currently. But as what you said above, the conversion efficienc is about 70%,so a KW solar panel can produce 3.5KW in 5 hours,The solar panels of China are compared comparably to other contries. The highest efficiency of 24% is rare, they are not widely avaliable.
Q: i don't know very much about it, but can you somehow take off the little solar panels off of the outdoor light things and make it so you can hook an outlet up to it and plug in to it like a phone charger for electricity.
Little solar panels on lights are very low power. The battery in one such may be 0.5 Amp-hours and .2 V ; it may be different but it should be marked on the panel/battery/manual. An outlet in your house is designed to run on 20 V (typically in N. Am.) and they run on alternating current (AC) whereas the panel generates direct current (DC). (If you don't know the difference, do not worry to much but just understand that they are not directly compatible.) You therefore need an inverter to change DC to AC (and lose some although inverters are now very efficient). But the amount of power generated by those panels is still very small. That is why solar lights are low power (just a few watts in most cases). To make things even more irritating, phone chargers do not work off 20 V AC as you are charging the battery and need a low voltage DC -- which is what the solar panel is giving you. It is almost certain that the voltage from the panel will be less than the voltage required for the phone. The charger is mostly cable but there is a black box incorporated and it should say what the voltage and current output are (the input will be 20V). So you should be able to overcome this not by hooking up the panel to a 20V outlet and then plugging the charger in but by hooking up the panel to the phone directly if you can get enough voltage out of the solar panel (or hook up several) and if you fashion a connection device. They already make them -- solar battery chargers and I am sure you can enter that into a search engine and find loads. Typically the panel alone is much more than a solar light -- which shows the relative power requirements.
Q: I want to buy a solar panel kit to run my central AC unit. it is a 3 ton unit. Can I do this? The electric rates in the Chicago area are skyrocketing and I can't keep paying 350 dollar electric bills during the spring and summer months
I know that in Texas we wouldn't even try to run an air-conditioner on a generator without at least a 6,000 watt generator and we would prefer a 0,000 watt generator. The calculator on the Kohler website says it'll be 7,500 watts. At $5 per watt to install a solar photovoltaic system and assuming you also need to run it through the night and taking into account that an inverter can be as bad as 60% efficient, you're talking about $87,500 just to run your AC for 25 years. The first step in going solar is to significantly reduce your energy use. You're not going to maintain your current energy use on solar, at least not cost effectively. If you did want to run an AC on solar power, you may want to look at absorption air conditioning and use evacuated tube solar thermal collectors instead but don't expect it to be cheap and it usually only augments the use of natural gas in the absorption chiller.
Q: Hi, I am very interested in solar panels and would like to know more. Can someone please give me a basic explanation of how solar panels work?Thank you
Solar panels collect solar radiation from the sun and actively convert that energy to electricity. Solar panels are comprised of several individual solar cells. These solar cells function similarly to large semiconductors and utilize a large-area p-n junction diode. When the solar cells are exposed to sunlight, the p-n junction diodes convert the energy from sunlight into usable electrical energy. The energy generated from photons striking the surface of the solar panel allows electrons to be knocked out of their orbits and released, and electric fields in the solar cells pull these free electrons in a directional current, from which metal contacts in the solar cell can generate electricity.
Q: I have:4- 5v 200ma solar panels5- 3v ,000ma solar panels- 7amp charge controller- 400watt inverterNow I have all my solar panels linked in series which in theory should give me 35v, 5.8 amps at 203 watts. Is this correct? The main question is, what kind of battery should I get so I can run my miscellaneous electronics off of it?I may not have explained it so well so if you need more information, feel free to ask.
I okorder and they have deep cycle batteries exclusively made for solar panels. but in theory you should get more than one because it only takes around 4-5 volts to charge the battery and you do not want to have it that high even with a charge controller which i would also recommend getting which is like $50 on OKorder but a charge controller is used so you do not overcharge the batteries and fry them or undercharge the batteries and weaken its life it gets it just perfect. it lets the current go in and when it is charged fully nothing goes in an nothing comes out.... for a inverter the one i was going to get was $70 500 watt inverter but changes it from dc to ac...hope i helped
Q: I am in the market for buying a home. There is one for salke that actually has solar panels on top. How are they used? Do you need to pay for gas and electric still. Does it really light up the house and keep it warm. WHat about the AC keeping hte house cool in the summer does it work for that too? Please explain in solar for dummy terms. I haveno clue about solar panels other thatn the fact that it needs sunlight to run.
well see a house can totally depend on solar energy (solar panels) but u will still have to pay the electricity bill because if the solar panels dont work u will have a back up,eg like in winters when it snows , it can cover the solar panels or during the winter seson when it is cloudy or snowing the sunlight can not reach the solar panels because of which they can not charge. but on the other hand because of the solar panels the bills will be decresed and u will have to pay only a small amount. I HOPE I WAS HELP FULL
Q: Can solar panels be installed on a gas station or convenience store?
Yes, solar panels can be installed on a gas station or convenience store. Installing solar panels on these establishments can help offset their energy consumption and reduce their carbon footprint. Additionally, it can lead to cost savings in the long run by generating clean and renewable energy.
Q: How do solar panels affect the property's branding and marketing?
Solar panels can positively impact a property's branding and marketing by showcasing its commitment to sustainability and environmental responsibility. By highlighting the use of clean and renewable energy sources, solar panels can attract environmentally conscious consumers and contribute to a positive brand image. Additionally, the reduced reliance on traditional energy sources can lead to cost savings, which can be highlighted in marketing materials and further enhance the property's attractiveness to potential customers.
