Q:When I'm older, this is the kind of lifestyle I want to live (food wise) with this being mainly what I eat.I'm sure my other family members would eat from other sources besides what we would have there, but if not, could a large garden and hen coop of say 6 hens keep a family of 4 full every day? (I've never had a garden before but am definitely going to in the future, insight please.)
Well sure... our ancient ancestors had to do this. Hard to know what sort of land you'd need. You'd have to grow some root crops like potatoes, beets - stuff that keeps for a LONG time. And you'd have to dig a root cellar. So there would be a lot of careful calculation in surviving a winter on your garden and chickens alone. We're not used to doing that anymore because of stores and trucked-in food.
Q:I live in central new york... I would like to plant a garden this year. this will be my first time, any tips or suggestions? what are the best vegetables to plant for my area. thank you!

Q:I plan on buying some flowers for my garden that are already grown (i can't germinate seeds for the life of me :( ). Would it be benefical to take these plants out of the plastic trays they come in and transfer them to peat pots and then plant them in my garden? I'm new at this, and my soil quality it very poor, so i'm trying to find the best method. Thanks :)
do a splash moat around each and every plant so as that they relax in a shallow dish. That way the water runs to them and doesnt leach out (fairly the alternative of establishing up around each and every of the stems of the vegetation). additionally, mulch the backyard and that ought to help you. in case you're additionally making use of her backyard next 3 hundred and sixty 5 days, as quickly as the spring plantings are harvested it fairly is advisable to characteristic some compost (continually a physically powerful thought) and coarse vermiculite, which will help with the water retention.
Q:What is the open garden landscape?
The distribution and scale of urban public open space should be coordinated and determined according to the corresponding level of urban planning
Q:Someone asked the question a few days ago about the possibility of changing the name of garden and landscape or creating another category for the the youngsters that are always asking about caring for their weed. I hate to think of anyone contributing to these kids ruining their health, or worse, and maybe those questions should be banned altogether. But while we're at it, how about another new category for answers only, titled quot;Don't have a clue, but feel compelled to answer anywayquot;?
I shall start with the second part of your question--yes, answers of this type are annoying, as are those with abusive, adult content (unfortunate label). As for the first part, I did participate in answering that particular question, posted by jD. I agreed with meanolmaw's answer and Pondlady was right there too with other Posters. There was a general feeling that it is better to have this unfortunate problem out in the open so we may all try to deal with it. Just Thumbs Down and No Best Answer are not the best solutions either, but if there is not a good answer to each of these questions when and if they go to voting-- and I have noticed that they usually do--there is not much leeway to be effectively preventive, not only for the asker of the question, but for the others who have not posted a question but are reading the answers in search of information. I have begun to try to answer some of these questions, as I believe, like meanolmaw and Joy is always Free, that prevention is the key. As meanolmaw very truly said, someone who asks for information here may still be persuaded not to try whatever they are curious about. Even one who is dissuaded is worth the hassle of attempting an answer. As for the counseling category--there is no way these youngsters will stay there--these questions are spread right across the Answers Forum. Here and in Botany they are probably more prevalent, but I have seen them in many other sections e.g. Cooking and Recipes, Words and Wordplay etc. Taking your suggestion a little further, perhaps we might all be in agreement to ensure that not one of these exploratory questions is left without a suitable answer which will aim to persuade the asker to seek better pastimes. Yahoo Answers is a community, and as members of a community I feel we can use our little knowledge and expertise to benefit this community. (Oops, that sounds like preaching--it is not meant to be--just thinking out loud ...)
Q:This cat has been wondering around our home. He sits wherever there is a door. I tried hosing the cat and it doesn't work.I tried scary it away but that didn't work.Any fast remedy (homemade) because this is urgent! She's tried to climb my doors (I have 3 exits). I feel attack by this cat. I never seen something like that! Every other cat acts normal except her. They all run or leave not this one. This is a black cat. Imagine how I feel opening the door and finding her climbing my front door.
Call the local humane society. They should be able to give you a live trap (or at least tell you where you can get one). Trap the cat and take it to them. Be sure you have a heavy blanket or something to cover the trap because the cat may get wild when trapped. The blanket should keep the cat from being able to claw things up trying to get out. It really bothers me that people let their cats run loose. They can get injured by cars or even by people who don't really care for cats. The cats can also get into fights with wild animals and can get injured or killed as well as the illnesses that wild animals can carry.
Q:not the one in Australia either, just the regular Better Homes and Gardens Magazine.
Go okorder and search it and it should give you the address
Q:I have since lost all the screws/bolts and other parts related to mounting a TV, and while I still have the bracket and all the hardware, I'm missing the stuff to connect them together.Does anyone know where I can get the replacement parts?
Take what you have to Lowes or Home Depot, along with instructions. See if you can print manual if you don't have it.Sometimes the manual will show actual size and how many screws are needed. Lowes and Home Depot have open stock of screws and they can try assorted sizes until they find the right ones needed.
Q:I'm working on learning how to be more self-sufficient, and living quot;off the grid.quot; One of the things I've been researching is gardening. Specifically, I'm wanting to start a well balanced fruit and vegetable garden. I live in the NorthWest, and we get a lot of rain. The hottest it gets is like 100 in the summer, and things usually freeze in the winter. What should I grow in my garden? The goal is to be able to grow food to provide for my family all year around. Yes, I understand I'll need to store some of it through the winter, and that I can hunt and fish, etc. Also, let's just say the size of the garden can be as big as needed, so no worries there. My focus is on what specifically should I grow to have a well balanced diet ongoing.
Plant the things you will eat. Canning stuff you don't like will not be smart. Consider a plot of corn. Tomatoes, beans, okra, figs, peaches, pears, and corn was our staples which we had in our pantry. I grew up on a sharecropper farm. We got by real well in spite of no money or luxuries.
