Q: What‘s the average cost to install tile baseboards? I‘m replacing my wooden baseboards with tile and was just wondering what an average price to just do the baseboards with tile. I have roughly 1500 inches of floorboard that is going to be done and I am looking to use 20 X 20 inch tile. No bullnoseing or anything special, just cut the tile and install. Thanks
UNLESS IT IS BATHROOM, LAUNDRY ROOM OR KITCHENS I JUST CANT PICTURE PUTTING CUT TILE IN. IT WILL LOOK TACKY WITHOUT A BULL NOSE OR A DECORATIVE STYLE. I RECOMMEND YOU JUST CHANGE OUT THE BASEBOARD TO A UPGRADED STYLE. WHAT DO YOU HAVE NOW? BASEBOARDS COME IN DIFFERENT STYLES AND SIZES FROM 2 1/2 INCH TO 6 INCH WITH DIFFERENT TOP CAPS. GO TO LOWES ETC AND CHECK THEM OUT BEFORE YOU DECIDE
Q: how I can install ceramic tile on a wall and what tools do I need to do so? Any other tip that I should know about it to do a good job would be appreciated.
You can put tile board over your drywall, then use mastic and spacers to set the tile on your wall. Look it up online, and you'll figure out how. I've done all this without any experience, but I am hyper-intelligent, so good luck.
Q: im making this really cool projecr for my moms birthdayy and i need a few tiles. plain tiles. where can i get them individually and cheap? ‘ how much will it cost? (per tile)
Most tiles are sold by the square foot,(s/f). But most places like Home Depot and Lowes will sell the small tiles , like the 4 inch tile per piece. I ve seen them as low as 8 cents a pc for basic white and cream ( bone colored) . Matte and high gloss both. Any questions you can e mail me through my avatar. GL
Q: i had a pipe leak into my bedroom and now everything is torn apart so i am remodeling my room and i cant decide between wood or tile flooring. my dad said wood because it looks good and because our living room and theater room is tile and if my bedroom is tile it wouldnt make any sense. my mom says i should get tile because if my grandma spills her drink or eat in my room it wont ruin the tile and its easy to clean up but if wood it could be ruined with scratch marks or circle stain on the wood from the cup or drink she spills. so now i dont know which one to choose. also i would like to paint my room blue and wonder if you guys have any suggestions on the shade colors of blue any website or image of the shade color would be nice if i could view them. thank you in advance!
Tile is very nice if you live in a warm climate like Florida. In cooler areas, it can sometimes feel cold in the wintertime. As to ease of cleaning, I find my tile floors are actually harder to keep up than the wood laminate because the grout gets dirty looking and is a lot of work to clean. I protect my wood laminate floors twice a year with a product made for the purpose and they are quite resistant to spills and scrapes. If you go for wood laminate, however, be aware that there is some cheap imported laminate on the market that will not stand up at all well. Buy at least 9 mm and preferably 12 mm laminate made in US, Canada or Europe. You'll find a rich wood tone in your bedroom gives you a warmer feeling in winter, yet feels comfortable in winter.
Q: Only whole tiles are used. How many tiles are neither diagonal tiles nor edge tiles?
If there are 121 tiles and both tiles and floor are square, this means there are 11 by 11 tile used on the floor (square root of 121 is 11) So if we exclude the edges, this means we have 9 by 9 tiles And there are 9 tiles on each diagonal but the one in the center is shared so we have total of 9+9-1=17 tiles on diagonals of this inner tiles with 9 by 9 So for 9 by 9 tiles we have 9x9=81 tiles and excluding 17 tiles on diagonals; the answer is 81-17=64 tiles.
Q: I have old, crumbly tile as a subfloor in my apartment. I recently put in vinyl flooring when I took my carpeting out. It now looks as if this tile (wood-like vinyl planks) are taking the shape of the subfloor, which was not perfectly even. I don‘t like that I see shadows of peaks and valleys in the new flooring in certain light. It also doesn‘t feel even when I walk on it barefoot, but I‘m extremely particular.1. Should a coating have been applied to even-out the old tile BEFORE the vinyl flooing was installed? (the company didn‘t want to take these up as they felt it was asbestos. the worker who installed the new floor said the old floor did not need a coating)2. Was this vinyl tile installed correctly?3. If it wasn‘t installed correctly, could this affect the vinyl tile/planks over time -- could it warp, perhaps? 4. What do I do if it was installed incorrectly and the company does not do anything about it without a fee?? (There‘s a warantee on the floor IF it was installed correctly only)
Your new floor will look good when new, but will eventually match the surface of the floor that it was installed on top of. How much this bothers you is a matter of personal taste, but your contract should specify the installation standards. If the installation matches the specs in the contract and you simply don't like the way it turned out, you're pretty much SOL. Doubtful you'll get much satisfaction from the installer.
Q: looikng to get a large hall way and medium kitchen floor done been quoted 1100 with fitting for a good quality laminate tile effect would actual tiles be much more or maybe even less due to the undlay needed with a laminate?
Actual tile will cost less ( than that of a good laminate) but the tile labor is double ( +-) that of laminate installation.Plus the prep materials needed for ceramic is triple ( or more ) than just the plain under layment of laminate. So on the average tile and laminate installation the tile is about double that of laminate by the time you get all materials and labor. Any questions you can e mail me through my avatar. GL
Q: We want to pull out our carpeting and use self stick linoleum tiles. What do we need to know?
You want a clean, flat surface to place your tile on. You can buy leveler at your local hardware store or you could overlay your floor with luon which is a very thin plywood to help level your floor and have a clean surface to work with. You want to start at the center and square out your floor with chalk line. You want your cut pieces on the edges. My husband also used an adhesive to ensure the tiles stayed put, but ask to see if this is necessary. My floor has been in for about 10 years now and the edges are still tight.
