- Depends what kind of tile, large? small inch tiles? Either way, a cement board floor should be installed first.Most grout gaps are 1/8th inch or less.
- Q: My wife sent me to pick up some used floor tile. It still has the stuff (plaster? grout? whatever?) on the back of the tile. Can this be reused? Do I have to get the old stuff off? It is on there pretty uniformly.
- You could use this again if you want. The biggest thing is the thinset mortar on the backs and grout on the edges. If the mortar on the back is uniform, there's not much problem, but it will add to the overall height of the floor. You will also need to pay attention when re-installing to keep your top surface uniform (flat so that you don't have raised or low corners). As for grout on the sides, it can be removed painstakingly using some ceramic tile nippers. If there's a lot on the surface of the tile, it may be hard to get it cleaned effectively so that all looks good. Bottom line, you can reuse it. However, there could be a lot of labor involved in getting it ready for installing it. Unless it was really special, I'd look for something new - especially if you're going to install it in a large area.
- Q: Our new kitchen tile floor was grouted last Thursday (almost a week ago). They did a poor job removing grout from the tile surface - very rough ceramic tile. I‘ve washed and scrubbed, it is cemented on. On top of that I don‘t like the grout color.Nothing has been sealed. So I got some acid wash and a grout stain from Home Depot. - Wait a minute. If the tile is a natural stone, it should have been sealed prior to grouting to prevent the grout from seeping into the stone. If it's ceramic or porcelain tile, sealing is normally not required. When grouting, it is common practice to remove the excess grout as you go so the stuff doesn't build up and dry on the tile. This is what happened in your kitchen. Consult with your local tile supply or hardware store for the correct product, then use it exactly as directed. It is true that a vinegar solution will remove grout haze from tile, but if there are chunks of grout stuck to the tile you'll need to carefully remove them and then work on the spot with the vinegar. While it may be more work, I'd try the vinegar on a small area before using harsh chemicals. Now, you can buy grout stain that will work if the grout has not been sealed. If it has been recently sealed, you'll have a hard time with the stain. Good luck.

- Go visit a lawyer for an opinion. It sounds like the realtor knew about the problem with the drain and failed to disclose it. Did a licensed home inspector provide a report on the house for the bank? If so, who hired that person? The lawyer may determine you have a good case of fraud and negligence against them so could get them to pay for the repairs plus his fees. Sometimes just a letter from a good lawyer will bring them to Jesus.

- Make sure that you are not using a sealed/finished tile. A terracotta or the back of a ceramic tile will work as long as you keep it damp. To start soak the tile overnight in a bucket of purified water, not from the tap. Tap water has chemicals to kill off the spores for mold/mildew. You'll need to always keep the tile damp so a warm damp place will be needed. If you know of somewhere with some mold/mildew spores growing, that'll speed things up. Otherwise, it may take weeks to grow naturally. If you do have a source for the spores, use a Q-tip swab to wipe the spores off and onto the tile surface. Good Luck
- Q: hi guys,i had a new shower which was leaking (no waterproofing where it was leaking from..), therefore i have taken off some of the tiles where the water was leaking from and i have waterproofed it with the paste + fibreglass. before i tile, i would like to have a shower to make sure that the water wont leak. am i able to do that? in theory i dont see a problem, but is it ok to get the waterproofing membrane so wet? thanks
- getting it wet and/or testing it is fine, don't get any soap or other chemicals on it that may interfere with the bonding of the tiles, you will also need to let it dry sufficiently before tiling
