- Q: I have 16 gauge speaker wire, but i need a lower gauge. instead of spending money and buying a lower gauge can i double this wire up and have that make it a lower gauge? so i would have 2 negative and 2 positive wires going into the terminal.
- No. 8 ga wire is much thicker than 16, even if you double it. Buy the right wire and eliminate the risk of an electrical fire. The wire is much cheaper than replacing your car.
- Q: I recently got a new dishwasher. My hubby and I are in the middle of installing, and are to the point of hooking it back up to the electricity. The cord that we have has 2 black wires, one is smooth the other ribbed, then on the dishwasher, we have a black, white, and green(ground). - The two black wire cord is one wire short to properly connect the dishwasher. The black wire on the dishwasher is the one that is supposed to get connected to a hot wire (it is supposed to be black), which goes all the way back to a breaker in the breaker panel. The white wire is supposed to be connected to a wire (it is supposed to be white) that eventually gets connected to the neutral bar in the breaker panel where all the other white (neutral) wires are connected. The green wire is for safety, it is the ground wire. It is supposed to be connected to another green wire (or a bare wire) that will go all the way back to the breaker panel and connect to the ground bus in the breaker panel with all the other green or bare wires. The two black wires, one ribbed, is just a two wire cord. The fact that one is ribbed, just makes it easy for anyone to know which is which. It is typically used for lamps that do not need to be grounded, so there is no need for the third green wire. It is not suitable or legal to use to hook up a dishwasher. It is also doubtful that the two wire black cord is a large enough gauge (size) of wire. If a wire is too small, it can overheat and cause a fire. The minimum wire gauge recommended for dishwashers is 12 AWG copper.

And I was wondering; since a fuse and the circuit breaker are similar, would the circuit breaker also be placed so that both terminals of the circuit breaker are connected to the live wire? If not, would it be connected to a wire that connects a live wire and neutral wire?
- The neutral wire is never connected to to a circuit breaker or fuse. It measures the current passing through the hot wire and opens if the current gets to high. Although the same amount of current passes through the neutral wire, an open breaker or fuse in that wire would let the load be connected to the hot wire but not to ground so you could bet shocked from it.

- The wires are memory wires. So over time they move your teeth back to the original U shape the wire was in. The thicker wire corrects your teeth more. You won't always get a thicker wire, but you won't be able to tell just by looking. A thicker wire will hurt more for about three days but then you will get used to it, just like the previous wire they put in.

- In almost every case, you just grab the 2 wires close to where they're joined and pull apart gently and it will come apart with no problem at all, and will leave the insulation intact on each wire, as long as you can see the 2 separate wires this should be no problem at all (in fact a lot of earbuds and headphones come with a little rubber piece on the wire that goes up to the split to keep the wires from separating too much, that's how easy they pull apart)
- Q: i've got a GOTOH humbucker pick up and its only got a white and a bare wire. can someone tell me how to wire it or how it works. i'm making my own guitar and i need help with the wiring.
- The bare wire is usually ground. Solder that to the ground wire that you should have wired to the bridge, and also to the sleeve connection on the output jack. The insulated wire carries the signal. Depending on the configuration you are running, whether it be a single pickup, two pickups, and global controls or dedicated controls, this can go in different places. Let's say, hypothetically, that you are using a single pickup. Then, the signal wire would go straight to the Volume pot. The tone pot would be an offshoot of the volume, which tapers the high end. There are multiple ways to wire a tone pot, should you install one, and the wiper of the volume pot goes to the tip connection of the output jack. - Q: Replacing my 3 prong dryer outlet but there is a blk, red, wht, and a bare wire in the box. I know where the colored ones go on the outlet but what do I do with the bare one? I didn't remove the old one so I don't know how the old 3 prong outlet was wired with these wires. Thanks.
