6. What's the characteristics about porcelain tiles and glazed tiles? Which one
more slippery, more aesthetically pleasing and easy to clean?
Glazed tiles are colorful, the effect is rather diverse, stain-slip, abrasion resistance but worse than the porcelain tiles. Long-term use may wear a large surface; porcelain tiles have the higher degree, long hard wear surface. Good performance and stable cleanup (before playing the best times to use the wax to improve stain resistance). The porcelain tiles are weaker performance in non-slip than glazed tiles. We should take attention on its anti-slip properties, face down in a tiled brick water testing.
7. How to choose bathroom tiles? Porcelain tiles or glazed tiles?
Currently used in the bathroom tiles with glazed tiles (mainly from price considerations, some high-end can choose tiles, notice to choose tiles), divided into Shinny and Matt two kinds. Light color makes people feel shinny, but the bathroom more appropriate to create a warm feeling, so the best choose is uses matte, the shinny feels more soft and not dazzling.

- There are two ways to handle the situation, the right way or the cheapest way. What is actually required is for you to remove the tiles and dispose of them in a legal way. If you do choose to cover up the tiles with new tile, you will probably not have a problem, but if the home inspector finds you have the tiles underneath, you will have to disclose this to the buyer who may want money back from the sale to remove the tiles which they will never do since they are already covered. If you are going to remove the tiles, get a reputable asbestos abatement contractor who is going to do the job right and not put your health in jeopardy. This will cost you but then you will not have anything to worry about once it is gone.

- I am a tile-repairman specialist. Install the glass mosaic tiles on top of the white tile and finish it off with white caps all around or a white plastic tile molding. The molding comes 8 feet long and 1 wide and you can cut it like you would cut any other molding. The glass mosaic tiles would look nice at 4 feet if you continue the run into the bathroom shower/tub area. See source below for pictures of glass mosaic tiles installed.

- Start doing the largest area and do a 1/2 tile on the out side wall. All interior walls are supposed to be layed out to the out side and be square. Now if you have a long visible hall way near by, you may want to split that to get a good look at it from there. Its hard to positively say with out seeing it. I could visualize it then. Since this is a diagonal you cant control to much where the tiles land. If it were a straight lay, you d have a bit more control as to the layout. - Q: My foyer and hallway is white tile with white grout. I am more vintage/traditional and was going to be using new grout. Are there any other colors besides white that will look good for the grout?
- They missed a step....Use a good clear silicone caulking in the 'crack' where tile and grout meet wall. Otherwise, if for example, someone showers and gets water on the floor, it will get into this area, go under the tile and start to ruin the flooring under the tile. Mold and mildew can also grow in these wet areas. Molding trim only covers the edge of the tile giving it a neater more finished appearance, but it's still cosmetic...to protect, you need to seal or caulk around the outer edges of your flooring. You will also need to use a sealant on the grout between your new tiles as well, or the same problem can occur, as grout is porous and can absorb water and soapy liquids which then go down into the underflooring, and different liquids can stain the grout.
- Q: I bought 12 x 12 ceramic tile from Lowe‘s branded as SURFACE SOURCE with a PEI rating 4. I bought each tile for $0.58 each. I want to use the tile for the kitchen, bathrooms, laundry room and living room. The tile was made in Mexico. I think the tile was being discontinued at Lowe‘s. Thus, I think that is why the price was so low. Did I make a mistake? The tile looks good and feels good so I do not see a problem with. I need an honest opinion.
- It will not wear as long as more durable higher priced tile, but it will last for many, many years. By the time it needs replaced again you'll probably have moved or want to replace it anyway. So, no, I don't think that you made a mistake if it is installed correctly.
- Q: Does anyone know if I can lay ciramic tile over the dull worn out linoleum floor in my kitchen? I don‘t want to peel up the linolium because of the insane amount of labor it will take, and make the sub floor un even. any suggestions? Will tiles still stick to this material?Thanks!
- The problem with laying tile down is that if the floor is uneven at all (i.e., not perfectly flat) your nice new expensive ceramic tiles will BREAK! Best to find a place where you can look under the linoleum and see what's under it...but, all that said, that's why the PRO will go all the way down to the sub-floor, get everything nice and level, then put down 1/2 cementitious backer-board (1/4 for walls, 1/2 for floors) and then lay the tile. That way, it can be worked out in advance whether/if there will be a height difference between the new tile floor and any floors in rooms adjoining it...otherwise, it's oops, I tripped again. Spend the time, effort and money and do it right.
- Q: I have granite tiles I want to put on a kitchen countertop. I removed the laminate and underneath is about 1.5 thick of a particle board of some sort. The countertop is very sturdy and the board is in great shape. I know if this stuff get wet, you can have problems, but otherwise it seems to be very sturdy stuff. I know most people will say you need to put down a sheet of hardibacker, but I don‘t see the point. With a top grade thinset, these tiles will definitely adhere to the board extremely well. Grount lines will be extremely tiny and I‘m going to double seal everything with a really good sealer. I don‘t see anyway water is going to penetrate these tiles and thinset and get to the particle board. That‘s really the whole issue, right?
- I personally would rather have hardibacker. Flooring people in my house right now repairing the floor and a joist because it was not used. Not even in an area that gets a lot of water exposure. Consider how often the counter gets wet and cleaned. That may change your mind. Also, you will need to reseal this more often than the product recommendations because of the amount of wear that is involved. Granite is also pourous and can vary on the quality. I just asked the tile/granite guys that are doing my work. Said they would not recomment it in tiles - sheeted granite is a different story.

- Q: I‘m trying to tile a map using swing (JPanel and JFrame) but don‘t know where to start. - That's the most efficient way to do it. You use math to calculate positions, so the tiles are virtual. Unless you really need to draw tiles with boundaries, don't show them (like the original Warcraft game). Perform all of your calculations like movement and clicks-to-tile conversions based on pixel location. This is far more efficient that trying to do it with lots of actual Java subpanels merged together. But, note that it's a lot of work and you have to carefully work out your calculations to make sure your clicks are aligned correctly. One mistake I made with a hex map once was I used doubles and I casted them to integers too early, and the slight different (by losing percentage) threw all my calculations off slightly. The trick is to create your background image tiles so that they blend seamlessly together on all sides. That will take a LOT of effort.
