Q: Another from the ministry of silly questions…I’d like to support a lightweight tarpaulin over my back yard. Single slope, high side attached to the house and low side attached to a scaffolding pole, running horizontally between two walls. Fair weather, no high winds or pooling. The run of pole would be 8 meters. The longest poles seem to be 6m, so I need to use a coupling. Will this be strong enough – ish? I imagine the most stressed point would be just around the edges of the coupling, so If I used two joints/couplings in the bar, wouldn’t I half the strain on a single one?Also if I made the joints at 1m and 7m would that be better than to have a joint in the middle where the most flexing will be?Also bit more expensive, but with Aluminium the bar will be 20kg lighter – buy will it be as strong joint wise?Will a tubular coupling be as good as a external one?If anyone knows.. Thanks!: The problem with your proposal is that you realise that the wind/rain could have an effect but chose to ignore the consequences if it occurs. 'Proper' scaffolding is designed and such an unsupported span would never occur in a 'normal' scaffold so the standard calculations would not work. There is also the possible effect on the walls, could they take an abnormal load? I would look at theatrical or music stage hire using trussed beams.

Q: i really want this piercing but i am a wimp with pain lolbut 2 of my friends have got i one said it was sore and onesaid it wasnt and im getting it tomorrow: If you are a wimp with pain, you will probably think it hurts. For me it was intense during the first hole for what seemed like 5 seconds or so. It also started bleeding (which my piercer says this is the best part of my job!). If your cartilage is really thick, it will most likely hurt more as it will take more pressure to get the needle through. With this said, it was my best piercing experience and I love it! Just remember to breathe and you will be fine!!

Q: Hey guys, so I got my scaffolding (ear) done yesterday. My piercer told me NOT to clean it, and that the best thing for a cartilage piercing is to quot;leave it bequot; I trust this advice, but I wanted to ask your opinion or methods that worked for you :) Thanks lt;3: nonono, industrials or notorious for infections. if you don't clean it, imagine how much bacteria is going to be near it since all the folds of the ear and the oils or your hair. I clean my industrial at least twice daily, and I have yet to get an infection though. What I do is Sea Salt Soaks in the morning and night. I put a little emu oil to advoid hypertrophic scarring. and I have kept my hair up every day since getting it pierced to make sure my hair doesn't irritate it while its still in its early healing phase.

Q: I have already got a cartilage piercing, and I was considering getting a scaffold bar. I don't mind pain, but soon as it was in an unusual place, I was just a little bit curious.: it wont hurt anymore than the piercing you already have probable, buuuut the long bar makes it easier to catch it and irritate the piercing, so just be careful, and youll be okay!

Q: And how long do you have to keep it on? Any other knowledge I should know?: 8 - 16 weeks - healing time. But with some people it can be alot longer! Clean 3 - 4 times a day. Try cleaning with a mix of tea tree oil and water! It doesn't hurt much :)

Q: Basically iv had my scaffold for around 2 years, it is completely healed. About six months ago i had to take the single bar out and put two separate bars in, i went to the shop i had it done at and they sold me two clear labret bars, at the time i did not realise that these were much thinner than my normal bar and because after time they became brittle and discoloured i changed them to two metal eyebrow bars as a short term solution, i need some advice on what to do regards changing back to a single scaffold bar, i would like to freely be able to change between a single bar and two bars/hoop, but im sure it would cause too much damage to my ear and too much pain to keep stretching it to a scaffold bar to then let it go down and stretch it again i will be needing a single bar at weekends not in the week, what should i do?: What you should do is stop drinking bong water.

Q: I'm wanting a scaffold piercing so i can wear it with a bar or 2 rings. Could i get it PIERCED with the 2 rings to begin with or do i have to have a bar for the first few weeks/months?: Generally a Scaffold piercing is pierced with a needle and a bar runs through both piercings. You can get it done with BCR's, however it would be much more difficult to align the piercings up because of the curvature of the rings. Also the Scaffold can be pierced with PTFE or BIOPLAST, these are both lightweight and flexible and will take the pressure off of the piercing. You can also have the scaffold done with 2 separate Barbells, but the most common way is with one long Scaffold bar. These are usually around 38mm long and 1.6mm thick. Cartilage piercings can take quite a while to heal, anything from 12 weeks to a year to completely heal. If in any doubt, talk to your piercer first about your options.
