- What makes her think it is related to the silver ? What exactly is happening ? Is it slow to drain or is water backing up in the sinks or? You can remove the traps under the sinks ( just unscrew the fittings ) and see if there is anything clogging it in there, otherwise post again and specify exactly what is wrong with the plumbing and how many fixtures are affected.

- I'm just guessing that you are referring to drain, waste, and vent (DWV) piping which operates under little or no pressure. Normally, waste and drain piping is made up from slip nut connections to simplify access for routine maintenance. In my experience, teflon ferrules will positively seal joints with finger tightness (if the piping and ferrule are clean). Ferrules (nylon or other plastic) are used on PVC and brass waste and drain piping. Rubber is used in some fittings but the performance depends on the integrity of the slip nut rather than the pipe wall (usually it is inferior).

- If you can get the pipe completely dry clean you can just use some ABS cement if the leak is small. There are also 'saddle' type repair kits available hardware stores, or simply band rubber or similar material over the leaks with large hose clamps. I am assuming you're talking about a leaky ABS waste pipe? Oh, other than the cement these ideas probably won't pass inspection in a house, you'd have to cut out the leaking area and install new pipe fittings.
