- Q: I need to install an electric lock on the back door of the hotel where I work. The lock has two parts, one receives a plastic card with holes punched into it. the other part uses a 24v dc solenoid to free the striker and release the door. the issue I am having is with the wiring of the system. There are three wires coming from the building (red white green) and three going to the solenoid/latch (red white green). There are seven connections on the punch card part labeled 1-7 (4 and 5 are jumper-ed together).I have taken my multi tester and there is no power in the wires, (should be 24v dc?).What wires go where? I have no paperwork on this and the manufacturer charges $75 per half hour.
- No.. he would need to drench her in gas to keep the fire going strong. A match would not start a fire on a blanket, and even if it did it wouldn't last that long. There would always be burnt remains, so I am not sure about the anybody finding out part. Maybe her corpse would be unrecognizable, but realistically it won't disappear completely.

- They would trade things with Native Americans they found on the way, and Sacajawea also taught them which plants were poisonous, and which plants were O.K. to eat. They probably fished, and cooked the fish by burning firewood.
- Q: My kitchen sink is clogged and wont drain unless garbage disposal is in use,but when the water goes down in one side,it transfers to the other. What should I do?
- I'm not convinced that a fire in the center of a room is more efficient. Efficiency of a fire would be calculated by the number of BTSs produced per unit of a given kind of fuel. It would be governed by how adequately combustion air is provided to the fire and how well heat is extracted from the flame and from the flue gasses. Placing a fireplace centered on the outside wall of a room with a heat reflector behind and an up-blowing fan near the ceiling at the center of the room is likely to provide the most comfort and the most efficient heating, other factors being equal. This is due to a number of factors: Good outside combustion air can be provided directly to the fire through the outside wall. A stove in the center needs to provide combustion air through a long pipe routed under the floor, likely involving at least two 90 degree turns. Worse yet, a room-centered fire may have no outside air provided resulting in pre-heated air being used as combustion air and cold air being sucked into the room through cracks and crevices (not to mention poor up-draft in the flue and the danger of carbon monoxide being sucked down into the room as the fire dies down). Placing the stove in the center leaves the outside walls cold with a blanket of cold air on the outside walls, making occupants feel cold so they will tend to raise the temperature of the stove, thereby burning more fuel. By placing the stove on the wall where greatest heat loss occurs, the problem of perceived coolness from the cold air blanket on the outside wall is relieved. Using a centered ceiling fan blowing upwards causes the warm upper air to move outward along the ceiling and down the walls, creating a blanket of warm air on the walls. The blanket of warm air causes occupants to feel warmer so they will be comfortable with a lower average room temperature, thereby burning less fuel. The answer to your question therefore is: it isn't.
- Q: I am studying system vulnerability and abuse in information systems, and am having trouble understanding the difference between security and controls. The definition the book gives of security and controls are:Security: the policies, procedures, and technical measures used to prevent unauthorized access, alteration, theft, or physical damage to info. systems.Controls: methods, policies, and organizational procedures that ensure the safety of organization's assets; accuracy and reliability of its accounting records; and operational adherence to management standardsAny ideas on what the difference between these is? Thanks
- Well, I suppose you could some of those chemical based heaters. Or what I'd do is make sure it has a good wind break, and maybe stake a blanket on top of it. Why? So the wind can't steal what heat is inside. You could also try heating a bottle of water inside.
- Q: I'm building my first house, so this is new construction. The hangers put up sheetrock inside a stand-up shower that is to be tiled completely (floor, walls, ceiling). Does this have to be removed in order to hang the cement backerboard, or can the backerboard be installed over the sheetrock/drywall?All I've read about backerboard installation only mentions installation over studs, and never mentions anything about existing sheetrock.
- There are so many incredible options regarding materials these days that a blanket recommendation doesn't spring to mind. Some of the beginning questions would be: Are you planning DIY or will you hire out? Have you considered materials based on what else already exists in you yard and what materilas your home is made of? Local materials, ie types of stone exist in your area? Shape and texture - do you want all one material or are you looking for a mix? Dry stacking and laying in sand or will you set in concrete? What zone are you located in? Will you have to plan on dealing with the freeze/thaw cycle? Plant/landscaping options vary widely based on climate as do local codes for this sort of thing as well as guidelines based on climate. As a general thought I'm partial to stone with a copper pit that is removeable - I like the flexibility to change pit depth and size - plus I'm just partial to the look of weathered copper.
- Q: What solution can you think of to diminish the heat island effects?
- My brother has snakebites. He used hoops while they were healing. After they healed, he tried using studs, but they kept irritating the inside of his lip he kept losing the ball that screws onto it. So I'd say start out with hoops until everything has healed.
- Q: This morning my boyfriend and I stole a bunch of cards from Target. We took out all the cards from the pack before putting them in our pockets for fear of the alarms going off. Was that all necessary or could we just stuff some **** in our pockets and walk out?
- If the doors of perception were cleansed every thing would appear to man as it is, infinite. do material things distract us from the infinite?- yes, almost certainly. is the opporative word designed appropriate for use in this question as it implies that our lives are somehow a trial created by an outside force?- hmmm, i might know the answer to that if it weren't for material distractions.
- Q: Winter.. ugh, not as many oppertunities to get creative as in the summer! It's colddd out! Any ideas?
- Teflon is used for threaded copper fittings. Dope can be used on any pipe threads and should definitely be used on galvanized. Never use both together.
