Q: I have acquired a large number of pots that were recently (3 weeks ago) planted with everything ranging from petunias to hostas. Alot are dying. They were just planted in topsoil. I have been giving them miracle grow weekly, but does not seem to help. Should I unpot, and mix in some manure or garden soil and then replant. I do not have beds for them yet, so for now they have to go back in pots. Is it worth the stress of repotting them to give them better soil? Yes, all the pots have drain holes and have been getting watered daily, and get some sun, but not all day.
It probably is not worth it. Not knowing all the varities, makes it hard to comment. But petunias and any other flowers, not worth the bother. The Hosta is a tropical plant, and should be planted in half plain potting mix(no fertiliser),and half light river sand. They should never bre planted just in topsoil. Dirt from garden beds contains all manner of viruses and tiny nematodes, or grubs. The Hosta is a sulker. It may recover, but will sulk for ages. The other wrong thing is you don't water daily. Your killing them with kindness. Only water when top of pot is dry.And remember size of plant. Water in the summer twice weekly, or when dry, and in winter, once or twice a fortnight. Then again Hosta likes sun, but some may not. Also do not fertilise until they need it. Plants recovering are more likely to die from over-feeding and over-watering. Good Luck!
Q: i think my corn is pregnant should i put aspen bedding in or shall i put a laying box with vermiculite

Q: Is it safe to eat vermiculite?
Adobe, okorder
Q: I have a rather large bag of perlite. I plan on using it as an incubation medium once the eggs come but could I also use it in my female‘s laying box? Is there anything in it that might harm her?
i agree vermiculite or sphagnum moss is the best. Perlite has been used without problem but some say that in some cases it may be toxic to the eggs so i'd stick to vermiculite and don't use paper towels geckos prefer to bury there eggs and paper towel also drys to fast
Q: What is Vermiculite called in Denmark?

Q: Im growing all kinds of stuff, not sure if certain soil differs.but is there some kind of soil that just stands out from the rest? Thanks.
My opinion is amended native soil. You can add compost, peat moss, chopped up leaves, and sand to your native soil. Since the roots of plants spread, and some go deeper than others, it is best to have them bedded in the native soil which has been amended for better growth. Don't forget to fertilize according to the plants needs and time.
Q: It's a science experiment, and I don't want to purchase a system. Researching on hydroponics, they say all this complicated stuff that's hard to understand if I'm just doing an experiment where I can grow the plant. Please help, thank you, much mahalo.
just give them some time! it took my crickets about a month to start breeding! make sure it isn't too hot in the tub!
Q: I have a female leopard gecko that I purchased from Amey Zoo. The man who worked there told me she had eggs/gravid. This is the first time I have had a reptile lay eggs. I need all advice you can give like what should I give her what do I do? ect. I really want these guys to hatch so all advice will be greatly appreciated. ThankNote: she hasnt yet layed her eggs.
Yes a true garden center would have it but depending on their location the garden centers may be closed because its winter. I would assume they would also have it where you purchased the tarantula or another exotic pet store. I just did a Google search and there are many places selling this online in various size bags. If you have problems finding it locally Google it and order online.
Q: What soil would have the lowest thermal conductivity?
This Site Might Help You. RE: I am getting a Crocodile Gecko tomorrow. What all do I need? I already have a 20 gallon aquarium. I have done a lot of research and have read a lot of different things. Is there anyone who has experience with them?
Q: I am teaching a children's art class and want to do a sculpture project with the kids. Some who have signed up are small and I am leary of giving them sharper tools to carve the plaster blocks I am making. I have instructions on mixing the plaster with vermiculite to make the plaster softer/slow down drying time. I have only found perlite- which is the same gardening-wise but I'm wondering if it will be the same for my purposes. I have found out vermiculite is clay based whereas perlite is rock I'm guessing I can experiment but figured I'd give a quick shout out first! Thanks!
Under NO circumstances do you put vermiculite into the oven! In the past there has been allegations of toxicities even being linked to cancers in laboratory animals. After all the product is quite inexpensive. (Not worth the health risk)
