Q: I haven't worked in this field in the UK, although I am able to diagnose problems, service and repair electrical equipment.
Look in the Phone-Book under 'electricians'. Your problem solving diagnostic skills, that you proclaim, are in serious question as your initiative is.
Q: Can I use an existing outlet in basement that's uses 14/3 wire and tap off of it to wire up a bathroom with 14/3 for light . Fann And one gfci outlet ?
14/3 wire is supposed to be protected by a 15 amp breaker. Think about what you might plug into the existing outlet, What you might plug into the new outlet, what lights are already on the basement circuit, and what lights you'll have in the bathroom. You've got to total the loads you expect might be on at the same time. If you decide a total of 15 amps is enough, to avoid confusion you should use 15 amp rather than 20 amp outlets. On the other hand you might like to consider that when short circuits happen, they usually happen appliances plugged into outlets. If a breaker that's likely to open opens, it might be good if the basement lights stayed on so you can find the breaker box and reset the breaker and/or find your way out of the basement. If it were me and there was room for another breaker in the breaker box, I'd put in a separate 20 amp (12/3 wire) circuit for the basement outlets. I'd limit the use of the existing 14/3 wire circuit to the basement lights and the new bathroom's lights. (If necessary, you _may_ be able to remove a single old-style breaker from your breaker box and replace it with two new breakers) Whatever you do make sure it's consistent with your local electrical code requirements. Many jurisdictions will allow you the homeowner to do your own wiring and they'll inspect it for you.
Q: I was wondering this, as I'm a smoker and never smoke in the house (due to owning expensive computers and such).Would the vapor from an E-cig be safe around electrical equipment? I would presume no, since the water vapor instantly evaporates after being breathed out, as apposed to smoke which lingers around and is rougher than air, which overtime damages fans and circuitry it passes over. Thanks for reading.-Karu
Very dangerous
Q: Can someone tell me more about this MOS or others that relate to this field of work. Also, how will a soldier be utilized under this MOS. thank you

Q: I have to declare a major soon, I am in the general engineering program at my school. And I am stuck between chemical and electrical. I love math, physics and chemistry, and have come trhough computer programming unharmed. I intend on going to graduate school when I am finished my bachelors, and in my career I want to be involved in research and development. basically, I would like to work in a lab/ at a desk and design and test new equipment, products etc. Also, I am NOT a hands-on, put on an over-all and crawl around in a factory type of person. What major do you think could best help me further my ambitions? Also, if I pick one, say chemical engineering, would it be easiy to get into grad school in another engineering discipline, such as electrical engineering?4 seconds ago - 3 days left to answer. Report It
Chemical engineering tends to be VERY transferable to other disciplines, at least in my experience and where I've seen friends of mine end up. I'm not sure how well it connects to electrical as I've never thought about going that route myself. . . but there actually is a fair amount of math in ChE if actually are looking for it. Neither EE or ChE are usually regarded as very easy among engineering disciplines, so you're in for a challenge either way. I got out of ChE for grad school because I didn't like the whole factory/refinery idea so much. . . and environmental engineering was more than happy to take me.
Q: for school we have to do a video on electrical safety and what to do and what not to do in a office (at work) and please give me some ideas to have that arent not to touch a live wire because i already have that idea! thank u and please help me out
1. Don't overload receptacles with too many plugs. 2. Don't cut up extension cords to make them work on equipment they shouldn't. (for example - Don't cut a standard extension cord plug end off, and splice it with a printer power cord, if the plug end of the printer is still good, but the wire is bad. - The cable you splice may not be rated high enough to handle the amperage of the printer) 3. Make sure electrical items aren't in areas they can get wet - A leaky roof, dripping onto a light fixture. 4. Don't run power cords across the path of forklifts, or other vehicles unless they are rated to be able to withstand that kind of traffic. 5. Make sure a qualified electrician does electrical installations - Things can get wired incorrectly and short out, spark, or catch fire if wired wrong. 6. Always use wire nuts, and/or electrical (rubber) tape when applicable when connecting wires together - this prevents loose connections, and prevents arcing or sparks from the live wires touching metal objects or each other. 7. When digging in the ground more than 12 deep, make sure you call the electric and gas companies first - Usually electrical and gas lines (water lines sometimes too) are about 18 below the surface. If you cut or break these, you can potentially be killed if you come in contact with the electrical lines, because the voltage outside of your home or building is considerably higher than the voltage wired indoors. Hope these help!
Q: I just heard tapping noises coming from the back door. The back door leads to the laundry room and multiple storage rooms. There is also all the heating and electrical equipment down there. The leak is coming from a pipe at the ceiling in a storage one, the room beside all the electrical equipment. The floor is soaked and the water is leaking a lot. Am I in danger?
Are you in danger only if the water comes in contact with electrical wires yes have the pipe repaired call a plumber don't wait til Monday when it will be cheaper because it won't when the ceiling collapses some one may get hit with plaster board and the. You wind up with an even bigger hole . The longer you wait the more it will cost. Especially if a fire were to start remember water and electricity don't play well together some one can be electricuted
Q: I just got a cpu cooling system (fan/heat sinc) the fan stopped working, ive blown it out and it still will not work. I dont feel the need to replace a brand new fan. Any ideas as to what went wrong with it?
Because new electrical equipment can go bad, they have warranties. Have it replaced! When you reinstall it, do it with Arctic Silver 2 (or higher) heat compound. It will drop the CPU temp by 10C compared to white silicon compound.
Q: do mechanical engineers also get involved with electronics?
Engineering is usually a team sport. The mechanical engineer consults with the electrical engineer for the development of the product, then it gets reviewed for approval by the principal engineer.
