- Iron precipitate can have a number of formulas. It would be any salt of iron that is insoluble in water. If you're looking at a chemical equation, it should have a negative ion formed somehow that would react with the iron. Iron can precipitate all by ifself; it doesn't have to form a salt as was described above. In this case, I think the precipitate is simply iron itself (Fe). 3 Zn + 2 FeCl3 --- 3 ZnCl2 + 2 Fe

Tin is a more noble metal than iron, and when combined as a set of electrodes, the iron will act like a sacrificial electrode to all oxydizing agents attacking the tin surface, provided the iron has somewhere to spill its cations formed in the process. If there is a rupture in the coating, rust can grow out of the iron there. Rust is way more voluminous than metallic iron and will not form a sheathing layer but crumble away, providing a medium for the iron ions to go into. That's why a damaged tin will rust faster than uncoated iron.

When looking for an iron, you want to make sure its HIGH QUALITY. Alot of irons you see at stores like Target or Rite-Aid say that they're professional but they're really not. Gold plated irons are the best because they get hot pretty quickly, and keep heat in so your hair gets curly really quickly, and the curls stay in all day. If you can't find a Hot Tools iron, check out a Helen of Troy which can be found at Sally's. They're the same iron, rebranded, and they're about the same price :) good luck!
