- Q: The grout in my bathroom is cracking bad and i just had it installed a little over a year ago. I called a different tile guy to look at it and tell me why its cracking. So im trying to figure out who riped me off or whos trying to rip me off. this new tile guy said the grout is cracking because the other tile guy didnt pull the old vinyl up. I remember the other tile guy told me that the vinyl was my moisture barrier so i didnt need anything put on the floor other than the glue ( or whatever you call it) So this new tile guy is saying thats the reason why my grout is cracking because he needed to pull up the old vinyl and the grout would continue to crack until that was done. So that means i need my whole floor re-done with new tile.....so is this new tile guy telling me the truth. Can you install tile over vinyl?

It was apparently not fastened down in enough places to keep the two sections of board from moving.

- Q: I‘m remodeling my kitchen and there is ugly floor to ceiling wall tile. My contractor says can‘t put up drywall without reframing (which would be expensive). So does anyone have suggestion on what to do with this wall?
- What do you want to do? You can tile again directly over them with new tile for an up dated look. Yes you can take them off but depending on what the previous person set the tiles with it can be easy to remove or an SOB. Its a dusty , dangerous ( at least if your not careful ) job and if the proper glue was used it really can be hard to get off. You ll need a hammer, wide masonry chisel, safety glasses , gloves, long sleeve shirt and ear plugs to keep out the flying debris. - Q: I ripped up all the existing tile, it was small tiles that I had to chisel up. There is quite a bit of thinset that is bonded to the wood floor and its impossible to get it all up. If I try and chisel it all off I end up ripping up the wood and making it worse.I think the wood sub floor is sitting on another older piece of sub floor but i‘m not sure.What are my options here?- put cement board over it (do i need to put waterproof membrane?) and then tile it? If I do this the bathroom floor will be slightly higher then the hallway floor.- Can I use self leveler on the wood subfloor and then tile over it? it would probably be the ideal height.- Do I chance ripping up the subfloor and doing cement board and then tile?Am I missing any other options?
- Use the cement board or 1/4 exterior plywood. I don't know about waterproof membrane, ask when you buy the cement board. You can get moldings to cover up the fact that the floors are uneven, just remember to pick up your feet. Trying to level would be a nightmare, IMHO! Ripping up the subfloor is a lot of work for nothing.

- After the tiles have been grouted, there is a cleaner you have to use to clean the floor of the residue. Go to any good builder's supply kind of a place and enquire about. I don't remember any brand names.
