I am not privy to your application or your local plumbing code. If you are using this connection for venting or draining you can connect these pipes together using a flexible coupling. Made of black, hard rubber it adapts and is tightened with (2) hose-clamps. If one or the other outside diameters vary somewhat, the coupling can be worked onto the pipe with a little elbow grease. FYI; I did find a special reducing fitting coupler for this problem but an order would have to be at least one dozen so I disregarded. If you would like to pursue my suggestion for the proper hook-up using the:flexible coupling, I suggest visiting a major hardware store or plumbing store. Best to Ya!

Q: Designing equipment for shipment to China and they request metric pipe sizes. Where can you get metric pipe and fittings in the US?: If you mean claim vs the town, maybe. Some of those bumps may have been unlawfully installed. A town near me unlawfully erected about 100 stop signs. Lota people got their violations voided. I see some commercial parking lots removing them, prob same reason. Call some lawyers about it.

Q: Especially the pointy thing at the top..what's up with that?: CPVC pipe is rated for domestic hot and cold water, and is typically much cheaper than copper. It is seen a lot in house trailers of a certain age, and in cheap residential construction. It is NOT rated for commercial use. It's single virtue is that it is cheap. It gets brittle with age, it cannot take excessive pressure, the fittings, especially valves, wear out quickly as well. And it has a large coefficient of expansion which must be accommodated as part of the installation. Writing for myself, I would not touch the stuff. A much better, if slightly more costly option is PEX. It has been around in Europe for many years, is extremely rugged, and very easy to use.

Black iron pipe is used for natural gas or propane. It is OK to use galvanized steel fittings for gas, but black iron fittings are preferred. For water, only use galvanized steel pipe and galvanized fittings because black iron fittings will soon rust. Galvanization slows down the rusting process, but eventually all steel pipe will rust. I would only use copper pipe for new water plumbing.
