Q:I'm getting a little confused. Some websites are saying there are two types of granite composite sinks. One made from granite and one make from quartz (which I know forms granite). The granite ones are supposed to be better than quartz in the respect to being stronger and do not stain or discolour.Most of the websites I'm looking at in regards to composite sinks state they are granite but when you look at the technical detail they are 80% quartz. Can someone give me some advice regarding this because when I phoned one of the helplines they said granite and quartz sinks are the same thing.: Well, if it's quartz then its very hard and can scratch glass/metal. If it's glass then it wont scratch steel. Quartz is fun because: it sparkles it doesn't need periodic sealing like granite does it will not stain is harder than granite so less likely to chip HOWEVER: even though quartz is a very hard material, it can cause marks when cutting on it although it is heat resistant, it is not recommended to put hot pots and pans directly on it as the adhesive material that binds the quartz together will change color with the heat Quartz is also much more expensive than granite (I have granite, by the way, and I love it) So... have you conisdered cement countertops? They work if your looking to have a zen kitchen but if you're going classy, you'll want to forget that....

Q:Does Phantom quartz ever come in a grey or silver colour? and where online I could buy a faceted round-shaped Phantom Quartz maybe in a grey or silver color?: I've never had granite but I do have quartz and I love it. It is lower maintenance than granite. My house is only 4 years old but so far we've never had a problem with stains (it's a cookie dough w/flecks color). I know spilled beverages have gone unnoticed on the counter overnight and have caused no problems. Jelly certainly would not seep in. I wouldn't let spilled wine sit on it or anything, but otherwise, I don't do anything special to it. In fact, we're probably pretty hard on it (I have 2 kids). I like the look of it just as well as the granite. I have nothing against granite. I personally don't think it's worth so much more money when the look and functionality is essentially the same.
