It is a semi-precious gem variety of quartz with bands of gold to yellow to red-brown color with a silky luster. The banding and color are caused by tiny inclusions of crocidolite, which is a fibrous version of riebeckite and therefore is a type of asbestos. However, you have nothing to worry about as the crocidolite is completely encapsulated and even replaced by silica. In other words, there are no fibrous minerals that can be released from the rock.
