- simple answer, when you first buy any heat tool it'll be coated with a special type of oil and that oil layer will burn on over time and until then you'll get a really bad burning smell, it should say that somewhere in the box or a little note stuck on the cord? the solution is to apply a heat guard that smells good and work it into the hair and then when you straighten you will get the smell of the product XD ps: next time include that in your question otherwise you'll b getting the wrong answers

- sounds like the coupling is brokenDoes it make a clicking or clacking sound during the wash or spin cycle? Did you over/load the machine with a huge blanket or comforter? The coupling is the part that connects the motor and transmission and instead of breaking parts in either of those units the coupling is designed to break,much like a shear-pin on a snowblower.It's not an expensive part and the replacement should be of better quality,(reinforced fiber instead of (nylon) plastic,which is original equipment)It's an easy fix if you know how.but it requires taking the cabinet off or at least tipping the machine on it's sideBetter to let a service man diagnose and repair itGood Luck.
