Q: There's a defective heating unit in my apartment, which is currently in the process of being fixedBut it will take a few daysIn the meantime, the temperatures outside make my apartment coldI have to wear my jacket all day because of the temperatureI'm not so much worried about myself, but about my dogHe's a maltipoo, 9 years old, about 15 lbsIs his fur sufficient coverage from these less-than-desirable temperatures? Or should I be covering him with something (i.ea blanket, a shirt or sweater of some sort)? Obviously, I just put on a jacket or long sleevesThen again, I don't have furI want him to be comfortable during all of this, but I don't want to leave him cold or run the risk of making him too hotI've had him for almost two years, but for a lot of that time, we lived in Florida where this wasn't a problemAny help or feedback is appreciatedThanks!
yes you can use a toss away aluminum pan to keep the food in just make sure the sterno is kept the right distance away from the pan to keep it heated correctly and keep the pan intactif possible use a heavier dish and just line it with the toos away pan

Q: We did a lab today in chem involving Hess's Law and a question asked why it is better to have two styrofoam cups instead of just oneI think it has something to do with insulation but I'm not sure! Thanks
It as absolutely about insulationThe premise behind a calorimeter is that all the energy from your reaction goes into heating the waterIf you know the volume of water, the temperature increase and the heat capacity of the calorimeter itself then you can calculate energy released by the reactionIt assumes no energy is lost to the surrounding at allStyrofoam cups make pretty good simple calorimeters but are not perfect, the extra cup is there to help minimise loss to the surroundings.
Q: I straighten my hair and its pretty short like 2 inches on the sides and well when I straighten it my hair doesn't want to stay close to my cheeks and it just kinda flys out lolHow can I prevent that? Thanks
i have the same problem
Q: 1) Do single mode fiber optics have a higher data transfer rate than multi mode?1a) If so, why? At first glance it seems that since multi-mode can have multiple light rays transmitting in parallel, it should be able to transfer more dataDoes signal dispersion really impact that much? 2) I'm trying to understand the point of multi-modeI know it's made of cheaper material, so did they compensate by fitting multiple beams in to bring its data rate up to par?3) Also, this may be naive but why not (or do they) make cable with the good quality material of single mode cables and the dimensions of multimode, and send multiple beams over a good quality material cable?
Take a thumb tack (drawing pin) and confirm that it sticks to the magnetThen push the tack into successively heavier objects (for which the weight is known) until you find one that is too heavy to liftMake sure that the objects are not magnetic themselvesOr, you can take a magnetic compass and move it closer to the magnet, charting the amount of deflection you see as the distance between the magnet's pole and the compass decreasesOr you can use a gaussmeter which is an instrument for measuring the magnetic field strength.
Q: We are looking to upgrade our attic insulation and are considering using spay foam insulationThey spray it on the roof rafters and seal up the atticDoes anyone have this in there home or can comment on this? Thanks.
You are asking for a world of hurt there unless you are making the attic into a living spaceIt is far better to use either cellulose fiber blown in or batts of fiberglass laid in to an R-40 at least. When putting the insulation in, MAKE SURE they install vents along the soffit and put the sleeves in the rafters that allow circulation and don't block them with insulationAs I said, if you are finishing the attic into a living space, then spray foam does a neat job, other than that, you want all the moisture from the house to be able to escape through the attic, not get trapped there or you're going to have fogged windows and water actually dripping down your interior wallsYou cannot have too many vents in your atticSpray foam is also very useful in applications like sealing the garage airtight from the house if it's attached so you dont get gassed but for an attic? No.
