- Only the light from lasers is coherent. It means that the stream of photons that constitute a beam of light have their vibrations all in step with each other. Think of a series of sine waves. If the waves all move up at the same time, they will also move down at the same time - they are in step, they are coherent. Light from the Sun, light from a light bulb, consists of photons that are not in step. Coherence can be forced on very weak beams of light by letting photons through a single slit, whereupon the light diffracts outwards and if then passed through twin slits will form two coherent beams which can then form a regular interference pattern. And its forming interference patterns that you want coherent light for.

- I'm a scientist and I can assure you only ultraviolet light (in the B band) will give you a tan. UV light is invisible to our eyes. Any color you see from the lights is just extra light that has no effect. If someone is making tanning beds that look red, they are fooling you into thinking they are safer by not appearing blue. They are just using the red to hide the blue. The invisible UV light MUST still be present to cause a tan and it is just as bad for your skin no matter what other colors are added. The other colors have no effect on the skin, they do not make UV safe. This is pure fakery to make money by selling you a dangerous product. They must have taken lessons from the cigarette companies.
