Q: I want to get Virgin Mobile, but their option list of cell phones are limited. I know that you can buy other phones and still use VM with it. Problem is, I don't know what phones I can use! If someone could tell me the names of phones i can use, id be very grateful! I'm interested in Anroid and Blackberry phones: You can buy any CDMA phone (Verizon, Sprint, Metro, Boost) and flash it for Metro PCS service. You cannot buy GSM phones (ATT or T-Mobile) since these are built on a different technology. Caution, regular flash will allow you to use phone for talk and text. Q: I have a t-mobile cell phone and since I returned home from vacation Sunday, I have noticed that my phone now says ATT as its service, not 'T-mobile.' I haven't done anything to my phone, and have no idea why this is happening! A few of my friends who live next door also have T-mobile and have the same thing happening. What's even more odd is we have far better service now (even though ATT has horrible service in this area- New York's Hudson Valley).Any idea as to why this is may be occurring?: It just means you're connecting to an ATT tower instead of to a T-Mobile one. Sometimes that happens because there's an issue with the T-Mobile tower and your phone can't connect to it. (Like if they're working on it right then or it's just busted, which seems to happen often.) If it's giving you better service, that's awesome, so don't bother to ask T-Mobile to put you back on their towers (tech support can do that I think). Roaming on other towers is included on T-Mobile so it's not going to affect your bill at all.

Q: I have tried to send SMS messages using Yahoo messanger to my friend's mobile phone in India, both from Yahoo Messenger on my phone and my computer. He rarely receives the messages. Also, I have received notification of only one his messages on my mobile phone but couldn't open it to read it, and I have only received a handful of messages from him to my computer. Or do I first need a T Mobile sim to activate the phone?I am confused by the last question there, so please help.: You need a T-Mobile account and data plan just to set the phone up initially. I have one, so I've done it. When you first fire up the phone, it expects to find a T-Mobile sim with an active data plan, and you have to set up Google access with either an existing account or a new account set up on the phone. Once you do that, I understand you can unlock the phone and use it with other GSM systems (like ATT), but there are a couple of caveats: 1. You won't be able to use the T-Mobile data network, even with a ATT data plan. 2. You can allegedly tweak the phone to use the ATT data network, but you still have to have a data plan to do so. 3. You won't have any 3G access on ATT or T-Mobile's network. It will work with the edge network, but since the phoen si a 3G phone, you lost the advantage of that higher speed network. To me, doing it this way is no advantage. Even though ATT has better 3G coverage (currently), T-Mobile is rapidly rolling theirs out, and it is available in many major cities. I have it where I work in DC, but not where I live yet in Jacksonville, Florida, but the edge network works there really well. I know you have an ATT plan, but if your contract is up or close to it, I'd switch. I'm very happy with T-Mobile (been with them many years) and the G1 is an excellent phone.
