Q: Yesterday my teacher assigned us a final exam or a projectI chose the Geometric RobotIt says: Use at least two of each shape below to build a robot that is 2 feet tall: sphere, circle, triangle, square, rectangle, cylinder, cone, square base pyramid, hexagon, pentagon, octagon, decagon, cube, nonagon, heptagonPlease help!!!
Ask in Science and Mathematics or Homework Help and someone might be able to help youBut I made a robot once using empty cardboard boxes of different shapes that I covered with aluminum foilYou can cut out circles and other shapes to glue on as buttons, switches, levers, etcArms and legs can be different shapes than the body and so on.
Q: I have a silver and carnelian necklaceThe silver is oxidized and I want to know how to clean it without harming the carnelianA silver cloth is out of the question becuase the necklace is too detailedThere is a method of cleaning silver which involves baking soda, hot water and aluminum foil, can anyone give me the exact details on this or other home remedies? Thanks.
First of all, your silver jewelry is better off saved in a tupperware like container, put the jewelry in cloth bags or in aluminum foil in the containerAlways keep your silver jewelery when not in usealso try to change the foil bi-weekly! And clear bags may work too! To clean silver, you may wanna try this inexpensive home remedy! Take dampened cloth/sponge and pit some toothpaste, but not the gel type, on it and gently rub gently over the silver! You may notice that the cloth/sponge becomes darker because of the tarnishadd more toothpaste to the other clean part of the cloth/spongand continue rubbing it in! Then rinse it with hot water (you may add ammonia to the wash water) and dry it of gently using a soft towelI heard WD-40 also works well! Good Luck ;-)
Q: I picked some fresh pine cones and I want to keep them fresh for the holidays when I make potpourriAny tips?
Specific Heat Worksheet
Q: Finding the mass of a volatile liquid?
You have a big problem: the tube with the cooled gas sample should weigh MORE than the empty tubeYour results are (a) wrong or (b) switchedThe tube in hot water is filled with the vapor, this is condensed to a weighed amount of liquidUsing the gas laws you can determine the molecular weight of the liquid The tube and liquid cannot weigh less than the empty test tube.
Q: Which would you prefer and whyI would mainly use it for surfing the web, and doing papers for schoolI am leaning more towards the macbook white, but is the macbook aluminum worth the extra money? And what about the macbook air? Please give me detailsI have already read through everything on the apple website, but I don't really understand any of itSo could someone please give me some details in words, not numbers? thanks so much!!
On the Apple Store, the $999 white MacBook and the $1299 aluminum MacBook have the same specs (CPU/RAM/graphics/screen) except for hard drive (160 vs 120 GB)So if an extra 40 GB and nice aluminum design don't concern you greatly for a $300 price difference, then white MacBook if for you320 GB hard drives cost less than $100 and you upgrade later if you wishFor the MBAir, you're paying a hefty premium for ultraportabilityYou lack an optical drive (external sold seperately) and you have only one USB portUpgrading is near impossiblePretty much a paper-thin MacBook.
Q: Three side sealed aluminum foil bag, how to seal it on the fourth side? Edge to about 0.8CM, smooth, no wrinkles.
If only the seal is not vacuum, you can buy a heat sealing machine, very cheap,If you don't understand, keep asking me, thank you.
Q: I'm looking to cook on my grill a whole lot more this yearWe love to grill and eat outside but I'm needing some good recipesSo please if you have any send them along! Thanks!
Like so many vices in life, it's a matter of quantityCigarettes and other tobacco products are known carcinogens, and the health effects are widely advertisedBest to quit(I should take my own advice here.) Drinking in moderation has been shown to have a positive impact on health, but the key is MODERATIONA glass of beer or wine with dinner is a pleasant addition to a good mealA three day bender, not so muchAt then end of the day, our little vices improve the quality of our lives: the question to ask is how much risk are you willing to assume for that pleasure?
Q: Aluminum has a specific heat of 0.902 J/g x oCTwo pieces of aluminum, with masses of 10 kg, cool from 400 oC to 100oCOne mass is round; the other is a cubeAll BUT one statement is true regarding the energy transformationThat is A) both masses lose the same amount of heat energy B) the masses cool in approximately the same amount of time C) the heat energy lost is directly related to the shape of the object D) the kinetic energies of the masses decrease during the cooling process.
I suggest that the answer is A) both masses lose the same amount of heat energyThis is because the relationship governing energy and temperature difference is Emc(dT), so for a fixed drop in temperature, there is only a fixed drop in energy for the same material irrespective of the shapeReasons why B), C), and D) are not correct: B) the masses cool in approximately the same amount of time : This is not possible as the mass with the larger surface area is likely to lose heat at a higher rateTHIS DOESN'T MEAN THAT IT LOSES MORE HEAT, just that it loses heat fasterThe final energies will be the sameC) the heat energy lost is directly related to the shape of the objectNot necessarily, the rate of energy loss as above depends on the surface area of the mass, while the total heat energy loss may depend on the temperature of the surrounding rather than the shape of the objectD) the kinetic energies of the masses decrease during the cooling processThis statement is correct but misleadingThe masses are not thrown or anything for them to posses any kinetic energy, however if they were referring to internal kinetic energy(which determines the internal energy of the mass and is related to temperature) then this could have been true as the particles in the mass reduce their vibrations when cooling down and therefore internal kinetic energy decreasesHowever, the statement given gives no indication of whether it is internal KE, and hence we can assume that it is not the case.

Q: bolted togetherBed has electric heater under the plastic liningThe room stays in mid-50's F at nightI don't like a warm bedroom, am also being thrifty (cheap)Is a N-E room, with large N window just above head of bedEdoor to outside about 6 feet from the bedIs a wood door over an inch thick, no other insulation to doorWould it be useful, energy efficient, to use packing peanuts in the open space inside the frame that touches floor? There's only a partial basement and I don't think it reaches to bedroomProbably just bare earth there. Will be using clean carpet strips, maybe some old clean bed-covers, inside the top frame for insulationI need to put those under the liner - hadn't thought of that before!Thank you for thinking and answeringAny helpful suggestions about the room are also welcome.
The packing peanuts will work.to an extent, although the relatively large air gaps between the peanuts will lower the efficiencyStill a nifty recycling ideaWhat I would prefer is to by a sheet of the foil-faced high density foamboard, anywhere from 5/8 to 1, place under the plastic liner with the heater on topNot only will you get the insulation value of the foam, you will get the aluminum facing reflecting the heat upwards into the mattressYou can tape the joints with Aluminum heat duct tape (Duct tape isn't really used for duct work, aluminim tape is.) which will seal the seam and also reflectI think you will be amazed at the resultsIf you wish to use the peanuts also, you could, but, they are a potential nesting material for pestsI might avoid on that basis aloneGood luckAnd I too like a cold bedroom and a warm bedvery comfy.
