- Canuck plumber gave great information on sweating a joint. You have to get all of the water out of the pipe or you will have a devil of a time getting the copper pipe hot enough. Watched a plumber at my house one time struggle with this problem, finally asked me if he could have a piece of bread. I thought he was just hungry! Got him the bread and he balled up a piece and put it inside the pipe and pushed it in a bit, heated the pipe and sweated the joint, no problem. The bread absorbed the water and will decompose and flow out with the water. Always thought that was a neat trick. Good luck

If nothing changes - next area to look at is the ball joint. A bad ball-joint is not easy to identify when the car is just sitting on jacks. Same with a tie-rod end. Make sure those components are functioning properly. If all those things are in good shape - then you truly do have a mystery on your hands.
