Aluminium foil acts as a total barrier to light and oxygen (which cause fats to oxidise or become rancid), odours and flavours, moistness, and germs, it is used broadly in food and pharmaceutical packaging. The purpose of aluminium is to make long-life packs (aseptic processing|aseptic packaging) for drinks and dairy goods, which allows storing without refrigeration. Aluminium foil containers and trays are used to bake pies and to pack takeaway meals, ready snacks and long life pet foods.

Aluminium foil is widely sold into the consumer market, often in rolls of 500 mm (20 in) width and several metres in length. It is used for wrapping food in order to preserve it, for example, when storing leftover food in a refrigerator (where it serves the additional purpose of preventing odour exchange), when taking sandwiches on a journey, or when selling some kinds of take-away or fast food. Tex-Mex restaurants in the United States, for example, typically provide take-away burritos wrapped in aluminium foil.

Aluminium foils thicker than 25 μm (1 mil) are impermeable to oxygen and water. Foils thinner than this become slightly permeable due to minute pinholes caused by the production process.

Aluminium foil has a shiny side and a matte side. The shiny side is produced when the aluminium is rolled during the final pass. It is difficult to produce rollers with a gap fine enough to cope with the foil gauge, therefore, for the final pass, two sheets are rolled at the same time, doubling the thickness of the gauge at entry to the rollers. When the sheets are later separated, the inside surface is dull, and the outside surface is shiny. This difference in the finish has led to the perception that favouring a side has an effect when cooking. While many believe that the different properties keep heat out when wrapped with the shiny finish facing out, and keep heat in with the shiny finish facing inwards, the actual difference is imperceptible without instrumentation. The reflectivity of bright aluminium foil is 88% while dull embossed foil is about 80%.

Q: today i want to roast some chicken and veg in the ovenwhen making this is it better to roast on aluminium foil or to use baking paper on top of the foil and put the chicken on the baking paper ??
You really need to give more informationAs a chef, I never want to put foil directly on meatBy sealing the meat/vegetable package, you will actually be steaming the mealAs this is the desired method for low, slow cooking, it also has to be removable to brown the chicken before serving or you will be serving a white birdSince you want to roast your chicken I would recommend the low and slow method of cooking chicken with baking paper and foil over the chicken and vegetables with your seasoningtop with baking paper and seal with foilDo not add waterBy adding water, your meat will become stringywhen the meat and vegetables are ready for the oven, place in a 300 degree oven until everything is cooked throughIt should take about 2 or 3 hours depending on the size of your chickenWhen it is cooked, remove the foil and paper, scoop out the vegetables to a plate and keep warm, drain pan drippings into a pot to make gravyIncrease the oven temperature to 400 degreesReturn the chicken to the oven, breast side up, to brown, while you thicken the pan drippings to make the gravyAdjust the seasonings as needed with salt and pepper, but nothing else should be needed Hope your dinner is amazing!
Q: in all the groupsand what charge will they become and whylike -4 or +2.like my teacher said for Li you lose one electron and then its positive but i dont wat to do with the higher groups 3 and up.
There is a delicate balance with stuff like this First off certain groups will have a definite charge numberGroup 1: always +1 Group 2: always +2 Group 5: always -3 Group 6: always -2 Group 7: always -1 Aluminum in group 3 will always have a +3 chargeThats really all you have to knowAll the transition metals change wildlyNoble gases wont have a chargeThere only becomes a charge when the element becomes ionic The reason why they get this charge is due to there valence electrons or electrons in there outer most shellFor example: group 1 has only 1 electron in its valance shellSo its more than happy to give that electron up to someone in order for it to comply with the octet rule and have a full outer shellSo once it looses its negative electron its becomes a +1(positive) ionthe rest are just like that.
Q: Seems like every time I bake chicken breast, it winds up coming out in an inch or so of juice and almost all the flavor is gone from what I marinated it withMight as well just boil the chicken and I'd have the same thingHow can I stop this from happening? Is there any way to do it without raising it off the bottom of the pan, like with a baking rack or vegetables?
You are on the right trackPlace some vegetables in the bottom of the panCarrots, celery and onionsLay the chicken on the veggies and bakeYou can discard the vegetables or press them and the juices through a strainer and use the liquid as part of the gravyIf the vegetables are still somewhat crisp you could eat them but they will have absorbed a fair bit of fat from the chicken skin drippingsYou could also use crumpled up aluminum foil as a rackYou can also use a cooling rack if it will raise the chicken up enough.
Q: ok so i got a mossberg 500 cruiser.and ive got a couple of questions so it be great if i could get them al answered, well i wondered with such a short barrel is hunting out of the question,if not what could i huntshould i buy another barrel, id like to go bird hunting what type of barrel would you suggest, length .smooth,or rifled, what type of chokes, also ive been looking at alot of these barrels online and they all say they fit six shot mossbergs, my magazine holds way 7 so im guessing its too long so would i have too buy a shorter one,the reason i ask is cause i read on hear that you couldnt convert the home defense security models to hunt, im guessing it might be because of the long magazine tubes the barrels wouldnt fit, am i right or is there something i dont know
Add rice hulls to the above listSome people think rice hulls could replace fiberglass insulation again; they have about the same R-value as fiberglass per inch and are almost impossible to burn.
Q: I don't wish to offend anyoneI am really at a crossroadsHow can I rationalize allowing formaldehyde, aluminum, and aborted fetal tissue to be injected into my little child's body? Do I just think about the diseases they are preventing and try not to think about it? Look the other way? For those that vaccinate their children, how do you feel about that and do you think about that stuff in your child's body? I don't know what to do - which way to goThank you for your help - this is the one thing I struggle most with in my parenting role at this point.
This is a major dilemma for a lot of parentsWhat has made it more difficult is the polarization of opposing views, in which pro-vaccine people (including medical professionals) refuse to admit there is any risk or concern associated with vaccines, and brush off concerns as ignorance; while the anti-vaccine crowd dismiss parents' worries about childhood disease and take a superior attitude to parents who have given in and had their kids immunizedI think the truth might fall somewhere between the two extremesSome vaccines are riskier than others, and some childhood diseases are more dangerous than othersAlso, risks might be minimized if we gave fewer vaccines at one time and restricted additivesSome parents I know are compromising by researching in advance and then choosing to start the shots later than recommended, insisting on only one vaccine at a time, and refusing selected onesThe chicken pox vaccine is usually the first to goGood books on the subject, which cover many perspectives and many options: The Vaccine Guide by Randall Neustaedter The Vaccine Book by DrRobert Sears
Q: My dog ate a chip bag and i only found pieces so i don't know if she can digest it or not i am really worried .
My dog got into the trash and ate aluminum foilWhen I called the vet, they explained that she could pass the aluminum through her system and it will show up in her feces; however, the aluminum could block her up which is then a problemI would watch your dog very closely and look at her throw up and fecesIf she is pooping, then there is no blockage and she is getting it through okayAll the vet could do is take x-rays to see if there is a blockage or notMy dog threw most of it up, but there was some aluminum showing in her feces alsoJust keep a close eye on herIf she starts acting weird I would see your local vet.
Q: My mom made this cake for me when I was a kid and I have looked on the internet for instructions does anyone know how to make this stand up teddy bear cake with various cans?
NOTE: This is not made from soup cans but it should workHow to Build a Bear Cake Pan By Kayla Lowe, eHow Contributor Baking is a popular, everyday activity that requires the aid of baking pansThe traditional shapes for baking pans are square, rectangular and roundOnly in specialty stores or during holiday seasons might you easily find unusually shaped baking pansSome shapes, such as bear shapes, would be especially ideal for children's birthday parties, although they are not easy to locate in storesLuckily, you can very easily create your own cake pans with the aid of a couple of common household items Things You'll Need 5 sheets of aluminum foil Toy bear Instructions 1) Tear off 4 sheets of aluminum foil large enough to conform to the shape of the toy bear, and tear 1 sheet slightly larger than the others 2) Place the sheets of aluminum foil over the toy bear with the longest one touching the bear, and press them firmly against the toy so that they completely conform to its shape 3) Pull the aluminum foil sheets carefully from the bear, and discard of the longest sheet that was pressed against the toyTips Warnings Press the foil against the back of the bear to simply create the shape of the bear, and press it against the front of the bear to create a more detailed shape with facial features Use more sheets of aluminum foil when creating your cake pan to construct a sturdier pan that will not give as much under the weight of the cake batter, which is ideal if baking a large cake Place the foil pan on a baking sheet before inserting it into the oven to steady the contents Always dispose of the innermost sheet of aluminum foil for sanitation purposes.
Q: for example, i take a piece of aluminum foil and determine it's area by measuring its length and its widthI know that the density for aluminum foil is 2.70 g, so I determine the mass of the aluminum foilNow that I have mass and density, I can calculate the volume for that sheet of aluminum foilNOW, i can find the thickness of the aluminum foil by using the formula T V/A (T as in thickness, V as in volume and A as in area)can I use this method to determine the thickness of an oil spill? if so, how? what pieces of information would I need?
Oh you really screwed it up this timeScience project aret meant to be left for the last minuteA science project like that takes anywhere from 5 days to more than a week And now you want US to help you do what you slacked off? No wayI'm gonna let ya suffer the consequences.
Q: I have an 08 tC and want to put a Cold Air Intake on it but I can't decide on Fujita or InjenThe Injen sounds better but isn't a metal tube defeating the purpose of Cold Air? What materials are they made out of? Anyone have any dyno sheets for both? ) Thanks!
hey broWhy are you limiting it to those 2 brands? They are both aluminum tube alloythey are both 3'' pipeIF i were you i'd really go with an AEM over these two brandsthe reason is this: the AEM is made out of 2.5'' tubing, which is much easier to fit into the tC's engine bayyou lose about 1hp using the AEM, but its nothing noticeable (you dont really notice anything but sound from a CAI)To install a Fujita or injen on it, you need to remove your drivers side wheel, wheel well liner, battery, battery mount, front bumper and your headlights.plus the other stuff you'll have to take off regardlessits a major painAnd i dont think you'll want to risk that with your beautiful new tC.The AEM one is also cheaperIts the same thing you'd get if you bough the TRD one from Toyota (its an AEM with TDR badges)SO its up to you, lose 1hp or spend 12 hours installing your CAItake it easy man!
