- Q: I'm just getting into listening metal and wanna know the different styles. What other kinds of metal are there. And what are the differences.What genre is Behemoth, Slipknot, COF?
- I don't know what you mean by metal other than heavy metal or just metal in general, so... Progressive in metal is differentiated from other metal by several things. You can have more than just progressive metal too, you can have progressive black metal (Klabautamann, Subarctic Heir), progressive death metal (Opeth, Death), progressive [heavy] metal (Winds (Nor)), progressive thrash metal (Turbulence (Grc))... etc. Progressive metal often has clean passages, time signatures other than your standard 4/4 or 6/4, and musically complex melodies. That's not to say that the melodies are complex from a playing standpoint, but that in music theory standpoint they're complex and/or unusual. Alternating key changes, especially ones not typical like going by 5ths, but instead changing keys to the third (I.E. instead of going from C to G (5th), going from C to E (3rd)). Often times the rhythm arrangement will be as musically complex as the melody. Progressive songs also tend to be much longer than traditional songs, where as say a regular/tradition metal song would last 3-5 minutes, an average progressive metal song may last 5-10 minutes. Progressive metal lyrics also tend to be more conceptual, and albums tend to be more conceptual, often times telling a story, with each song being a different chapter of the story. Progressive metal also tends to have a lot of shredding in its music. Mostly what sets progressive metal out is its experimentation in compositional complexity, often taking influence from classical music and jazz. This is not to be confused with avant-garde, which tends to lend its experimentation to using non-standard instruments, or using standard instruments in non-standard ways.

- Well...screamo, emo, punk, core aren't metal dude. They're just scene kid music. Real metal subgenres are stuff like death metal, black metal, doom metal, thrash metal, power metal, and their many subgenres aswell..melodic black metal, symphonic black..etc. There are many good bands out now, under these subgenres...if you've never heard of them you should definitly check 'em out dude. I love just about all subgenres of metal. (Not hardcore and screamo) haha Oh and by the way... Meshuggah is Metalcore. Hardcore dude. Not metal.
- Q: Metal Gear Solid fans?Ive never been into mgs but I hear that mgs4 is awsome, so instead of just going and buying mgs4 people are telling me to get the Metal Gear Solid Essentials Collection first so i understand the story line. The problem is i just got the first metal gear solid for the ps1 and theres no point in buying the Metal Gear Solid Essentials Collection and getting another one.

- Isn't it corpse paint and rawness some do it well some sound so bad that the very first recording ever sounds better its so wasteful. CC (new cd as good as ever), Morbid Angel (new album is arrive sometime soon great!), and Carcass (who knows about a new album but they been touring) they are death metal. Not many good Blackmetal out anymore like Darkthrone which is a must as they been around forever also the Storm project Mutiilation is sorta well known but limited then I kinda listen to some new stuff like Kult Ov Azazel. I don't just listen to just metal.
- Q: What happened to the metal scene in the States? In Europe, S. America and other places great metal and it's various sub-genres is still being produced. Especially right now the symphonic/gothic/power metal sound in Scandinavia is especially strong. I've always been drawn to the epic sounds, intelligent lyrics, and musicianship found especially in thrash and progressive metal.
