Wind does matter on location.

You can run a lot of things. If you set the system to charge batteries when you are not using anything, they will charge effectively. You can use the system for lighting, LED lighting direct from the battery power is most effient since LEDs are low voltage devices with a very long life span. I replaced a 2 tube flourescent trough with four 5Watt PowerLEDs for example, While I have it on 20VAC at the moment, I can move it to 2 VDC power with ease, and had set it up to run initially on 2 volt sources. There are also many 2 volt appliances as well. You can even convert some of those all in one stereo systems to operate on 2 volts by eliminating the power supply. You will actually use less power by doing so. You will not be able to blow the shingles off the roof unless you add a Class D amplifier to the output, but for most listening, the output is adequate. Some small TV's these days can be run from 2 volt sources, if not directly, then with a buckboost inverter for a laptop. The small TVs only draw about 30 to 45 Watts. Skip the idea of using an inverter, they are not efficient at small loads, and represent additional load on the system. So with a little bit of planning, you can run a lot from that 60 Watt system. You can at least take some bite out of the electric bill for mundane lighting. You can also use them to keep power up on a battery system for lighting in a remote barn. The uses are only limited by your imagination and creativity.

Hi, the solar powered-venting system is not air conditioning, it is simply a venting system to attempt to balance the interior temperature of the Prius with the outside temp when the interior of the Prius is at least 68 degrees. This is an optional system and is available as a stand-alone option for $800.00 or $3600.00 in conjunction with the navigation system. The solar roof is integrated into a full function sunroof, but the sunroof can be opened without using the solar venting portion. There is a separate portion of the system that will allow the driver to turn on the electric AC for three minutes, if there is enough stored charge in the nickel metal hydride (NiMH) hybrid battery. The AC is not linked to the lead acid battery, and is run by the NiMH only, not the gas engine. The NiMH and lead acid are two separate power systems. The solar panels do not power anything else in the Prius and do not boost the power to any of the systems. The solar venting does permit less energy from the NiMH to be utilized for AC at the next startup. For trivia, the EPA will not allow Toyota to install the solar venting system on Prius with the top package V (#5). The EPA feels the Prius is too top heavy with all the additional sensors required for the radar guided cruise control and all the other high tech components in the top end option package, just FYI.

Photolvoltaic arry is the more technical name and the more accurate name for solar panels. Photo indicates light and voltaic indicates a voltage is produced.. Array is just a layout of these little light sensitive electricity generating panels. Actually Solar only idicates the SUN and not light in itself..

Q: i just took a trip to florida, they are cutting down anything that doesnt float and putting up buildings. Most of these cost a bundle, bill gates may pay cash for them, but most people will have many payments. Since pools, satellite dishes, and docks if near the water seem to be standard issue, why not a couple solar panels and water heater. It is florida after all, and if you are allready paying a half million or so for a house, what is another 0k gonna mean to you. Why dont they make it mandatory to include these on all new housing and condos and businesses. With that many the price would come down quickly and pay for itself long before the house is payed off and/or florida is flooded due to global warming.
Solar Panels in housing developments is not being used because it would add $25,000 to $40,000 to the price of the home. Most people in the USA don't understand that after a few years the solar electric panels will start paying them back. It is not just the upfront cost. People would rather spend that 40K on somthing smart like a new corvette. Which has no pay back at all then something stupid like solar electric and helping themselfs or the rest of the world. So if the builders were to add them to the house people would just buy from another builder and the one adding the solar roof tops would just go broke. The State would have to find a way to credit the buyer or buider enough to make it worth it. Is it not more fun to spend millions on finding out where Anna Smith is going to be barried? Or maybe billions on top of billions on War? If we had spend the money on solar that we have spend on Iraq alone we could have put solar on every roof top in the whole USA and had few billion left over. Think about it.. 200 million people in the USA with three to a home would be 66 million homes. It would have only cost 528 billions dollars to put a kWh Solar Electric system on each house in America. But that would be stupid. War makes more money. We don't want Exxon to go broke do we?
