- Q:You find this tubing with home cinema equipment cables. It's mounted on the wall and does not need any wall cable grippers or anything.
- ITS A CONDUIT, THEY CAN BE METAL OR PLASTIC.
- Q:Can plastic tubes be used for chemical storage?
- Yes, plastic tubes can be used for chemical storage depending on the type of chemical being stored. Certain plastics are chemically resistant and can safely contain a wide range of chemicals. However, it is important to consider the specific compatibility of the plastic material with the chemical in question to ensure safe storage and prevent any chemical reactions or degradation of the plastic.
- Q:I have a fairly old A/C unit in my home. Thanks to my lovely new puppy's curiosity a white tube running from the unit into the house is now broken. It appeared to be a plastic tube about an inch or so in diameter. What is this tube for and what would be the easiest method of repairing it? It is broken clean off and there is now about a 10-14 inch piece missing.
- Nothing to worry about..thats a condensation tube for over flow of a little water....it can drain off in the yard...that other answer is crazy about freon mixing with water!!!
- Q:How to measure the ends of a building with a transparent hose?
- The construction measure is often used in plastic pipe irrigation in horizontal pipe, using the principle of the connector of the connected device, both ends are open at both ends, water is the same height, close to the end of the elevation, the other end is close to the test site, slowly raise or drop action has a fixed elevation, when it has been on the elevation point the other end of the inside of the water level, height and elevation points are the same height.
- Q:Can plastic tubes be used for storing pharmaceuticals?
- Yes, plastic tubes can be used for storing pharmaceuticals.
- Q:what is dialysis tubing? how can it be used to demonstrate osmosis?
- Dialysis tubing is actually a semi-permeable membrane when used in water. Experiments illustrating osmosis and pressure gradients across a membrane use dialysis tubing. This tubing usually comes in rolls and when wet, will open up into a cylindrical tube that can be tied off at the ends. The tubing can also be fitted over a thistle tube for such experiments. Dialysis tubing is literally a semi-permeable sheet of plastic. [Like a cell membrane, it can allow certain things in, but not everything.] In a dialysis tubing experiment, one fills the inside of the sheet with a concentrated liquid of some sort and then seals off the open ends of the tube. Then, one places the tube and liquid into another type of liquid and after awhile, the liquid from the outside moves inside the tube. What I did for my first dialysis tubing experiment was filling the inside of the tube with a concentrated starch solution and placed the tubing into a beaker of Lugol's solution diluted with distilled water. After a 1/2 hr, some of the Lugol's and distilled water will have entered the dialysis tubing. One can see that osmosis has happened because the Lugol's in the tube would have turned blue when in contact with the starch. Osmosis caused the diluted/unconcentrated solution of Lugol's and dH2O to go through the semi permeable membrane and into the concentrated solution of starch. Like a cell's membrane, if the outside of the cell is more concentrated, the cell would lose water because the the water will leave the cell and go for the concentrated outside environment. If the inside of the cell was more concentrated than the outside, the outside water will go into the cell through the semipermeable membrane.
- Q:it is too short as it allows water backup from my discharge pipe. does anyone have any idea's how I can extend my gooseneck deeper into my discharge pipe so water does not back up?and no, I do not have a blockage. my plumber told me my washer discharge gooseneck is too short. it needs to go 8 to a foot into pipe.
- Normally the plastic part that forms the n shaped bend can be unclipped and moved up the hose so you can get a longer length into the discharge stand pipe. If the pipe is too short to reach the stand pipe when you do this, you can buy an extension kit from a hardware store.
- Q:Also when a cell is hypertonic to its environment does that mean the environment is hypotonic to the cell?
- If the tube shrinks, water must be going out of the tube, and this must be occurring because there is a concentration gradient across the tubing. However, both sides start with distilled water, so the water on both sides should have the same (low) amount of dissolved substances. Presumably the shrinkage is occurring over a period of hours or days? My guess would be that something is getting into the water in the cup - this could be dissolved matter from floating dust or bacteria, but more likely are gases from the air. Distilling water would degas it - oxygen, nitrogen, and CO2 would be removed. However, these gases, most significantly CO2, will redissolve in the water if it is left in air (carbon dioxide dissolves to make a solution of carbonic acid). In addition, any contaminants that persisted through the distillation would be concentrated when the cup water evaporates, though this is likely to be a small change due to the high purity of distilled water. You are correct about your second question.
- Q:If you have a CPAP machine with a nasal mask, and it is new, does the smell of the plastic make you feel ill? Anyone have this experience, and what did you do about it ?
- You could of course have an allergy to the product, hence the ill feeling when using it. You shouldn't feel that way. Check your manufacturer's manual -- most can be found online if you don't have it -- and see what products you can use to clean it. I use Dawn dishwashing detergent (prefer the green, not the kind with added fragrances or bleach). Soak it a few minutes, rinse, then soak in cold water with a bit of baking soda dissolved. Rinse again. That should get rid of the smell, but don't do it unless the manufacturer approves. Those parts are expensive, and you don't want to completely ruin one. On another note, is the ill feeling from the smell, or perhaps from the force of the air to be inhaled? Perhaps the settings need to be fine-tuned? Don't hesitate to contact the prescribing doctor if you still have questions.
- Q:Just wondering if the blue and red coloured sharkbite Pex tubing that is sold in states legal to use in Canada? I'm looking to do the plumbing in my new home and am looking to use this stuff rather than the copper. Thanks for any help
- Can't imagine a problem with code compliance. PEX (plastic extruded tubing) has been used in northern Europe for decades, because it won't split when water freezes inside it -- it just swells up like a sausage, then reverts to it's original shape when thawed. The stuff is made from the same material as trash bags, and it will outlast cockroaches. It won't interact chemically with water or with impurities which might be in the water, it steals less heat from the water than does copper, so the wait for hot water is shorter, and it doesn't transmit sound as readily as copper. Only caveat is to be careful to use quality fittings -- the few problems I've ever heard of with PEX all had to do with inferior or poorly installed elbows, tee fittings, etc. I've used it exclusively for 8 years (well over 100 custom homes) and never had a single problem.
