- Standard' height for a vanity cabinet is 30' plus the thickness of the top - If you're using cultured marble, that will be about 7/8' Granite is available in 2cm or 3cm thicknesses. Standard depth is 21 inches, as opposed to 24 inches for kitchen cabinetry. I have a lot of customers that prefer a taller vanity, so we manufacture alot of them at a 35 1/4 inch height now as well. This brings them to 36' with the top in place.

Has anyone ever painted or stained the oak one a different color to match their bathroom a little better. Like a darker cherry vs. the light oak that you buy it as ?Was wondering if this could be done, or a good idea, would I have to prime it first, I mean it is wood, it should be able to absorb and accept a good quality wood stain, right ?
- If the vanity has a factory finish on it, you will not be able to restain it without a lot of difficulty. The polyurethane finish will not let the stain penetrate the wood. You can use a bonding primer and then a top coat of paint. If you want to stain your own, you should check into buying an unfinished vanity. God Luck

- I definately do not believe in throwing anything out that can be salvaged. I am a fauxist for a living, so I have seen multi-millionaires have tons of things painted over rather than buy new. A little paint can fix anything. You want to get a good primer. Maybe Bin Zinzer. It's a shellac, which means it's alcohol based and dries within a few minutes instead of waiting hours or a day. Something compatible with an oil based paint because you will want to paint over it with an oil based paint for durability and for a more smooth finish. Oil based paints are a pain in the butt, but they are worth it. Just make sure you keep some mineral spirits handy and tape up really well. Just go to a local paint supplier (Southern Paint, Sherwin Williams, a home improvement store) and ask what they recommend. I would get a cheap small roller and a mini roller to apply the paint, with a VERY smooth surface. Ask. That's what they are hired for! Make sure, also, that you 'baby sit', a.k.a. make sure that there are no drips when you are painting, because if there are and they harden then you will have to live with them or cut them off leaving a big hole in the surface of the paint. Also, make sure you take the tape off as soon as you are done, when the paint is still wet, otherwise it will take some of the dried paint with it and the only way to fix that is to sand the paint and start over or apply a joint compound or something similar and sand it so that it has a smooth, flush surface and not a dent where the paint was ripped off. Read the label of the can. They take a while to dry so plan on not using the vanity for a day. It's best to 'cut in' first before you start painting. That means take an angled trim brush (ask for one at the store) and paint all around the edges and hard to get to places first, then do the bigger areas.
- Q: My master bathroom vanity is very outdated...I think it was put in when the house was built in 1981. I was originally planning on buying a vanity to replace it from somewhere like Lowes or Home Depot, but Ive run into a problem. My current vanity is 54 inches, but so far Ive only seen 48 inch and 60 inch vanities at home stores. I considered using a 48 inch, but I dont feel it would look right. I also know having one custom built is a possibility, but I dont want to spend a fiortune.
- You could order a custom size. But the easy solution is to get a standard size for the vanity sink base (VSB) like a 36. Then you could put a VDB18 next to it- vanity drawer bank 18 wide- and you'd havve 54, and plenty of storage and function (and an off center sink, which I personally would like but I'm sure a lot of people wouldn't...) Or a VSB30 and a 12 on each side, or whatever combination fits your style. Either a cabinet shop or even somewhere like Home Depot can help you plan it in standard sizes. That way, you may get stock items, which is faster, but you definitely avoid the modification upcharges for special sized and stuff. Also a note. If your plumbing and stuff allows it, you might consider regular kitchen cabinets. A lot of our customers prefer 36 height (standard kitchen) in the bathroom instead of the lower vanity height. I'm only 5'6 and I don't like regular short vanities! And you might save money there, as they might stock more kitchen sizes than vanity sizes.
