- Q: Can solar panels be installed on fences?
- Yes, solar panels can be installed on fences. In fact, installing solar panels on fences is becoming increasingly popular as it maximizes space utilization and allows for efficient energy generation in areas with limited roof space. Additionally, fence-mounted solar panels can provide added privacy and security benefits.
- Q: Hi.How efficienent are solar panels? I mean, suppose we install a kw panel.. Wil it produce 5kw in 5 hours of good sun light?Or like if its 80 percent efficient, wil it produce 4kw and so on.Also, do the chinese solar panels give the same results as compared with panels from other countries?I live in india, so we get plenty of sunlight during the day. Thanks
- Efficiency of photovoltaic panels usually describes the ratio between the energy of the sunlight falling onto the panels and the electric energy you get out. This number is, for commercially available panels today, usually in the range of 2...9 %. What you are asking is something else. The power from the panel depends on the light falling on it. A panel rated for kw peak will deliver that kw under a clear sky, with the sun orthogonally above the panel. For a fixed mounted panel, that is true (at most) for two days every year at noon. At any other time, the output is less. Therefore (at least for the area I live in), some people build databases (and Excel tools) in which the various variables are considered: - inclination of the panel - orientation of the panel - average sunshine duration during a year Plugging in these numbers, I get theoretically for my roof an electricity output of just over 000 kWh/year per installed kWpeak of collector power. If you set up a tracking panel (following the sun), the energy output of the panel will be higher, but so will be the cost for the mounting and the area needed to set up the system.
- Q: Can solar panels be integrated into building materials?
- Yes, solar panels can be integrated into building materials. This innovative approach, known as building-integrated photovoltaics (BIPV), allows solar panels to be seamlessly incorporated into various architectural elements such as roofs, facades, windows, and even entire building structures. BIPV offers a dual function by serving as both a source of renewable energy and a structural component, enabling buildings to generate sustainable electricity while maintaining aesthetic appeal.
- Q: I want to know how to hook up a Solartech SPM020P-R, 20W Solar Panel to a single outlet that you can but at a store.
- That solar panel puts out about amp (in round numbers). If you are talking about a 20vac outlet, you'll have to send the output of the solar panel through an inverter. That brings it up to 20vac. 20 watts at 20 volts means you'll only be able to draw 0.6667 amps. With an inverter at 85% efficiency, you'll only get about 0.4 amps. That would barely light a CFL. 20 watts of power at 7 volts = amp (in round numbers) 20 watts of power at 20vac = 0.6667 amp (in round numbers) Power (watts) = current x voltage. If you increase voltate, you must decrease current to get the same watts. Watts is the common denominator in power measurement.
- Q: I want to get a solar panel to run a fan (or two) for swamp coolers.I'm not looking to power 20box fans, just maybe some of those auto fans. What the heck kind of panel do I need? What is a power inverter and what does it do?Will I lose all my power if I use a 00' extension cord? How do I choose what I'm going to need?
- Here is one that can work for a small swamp cooler, but if you want to build a larger one, use multiple fans. This model uses .4 amps at 2 volts DC. 2 X .4 = 5 watts. You'll want about 6 watts per fan for the panel, so if you had 4 of these fans, at 5 watts each, look for a 25 watt or so sized panel. The panel should have a Volts Open Circuit (Voc) rating around 8 volts, that is normal for a 2 volt system. Then you can just wire the fans, in parallel to each other, to the output of the panel. I read an article in Home Power Magazine about a guy who did this to ventilate his crawl space. He only wanted the fans to run when it was dry weather outside, like when it's sunny. The panel not only powered the fans, but were perfect for sensing when it was sunny. You can do the same thing with the swamp cooler. This fan was clipped from Marlin Jones website, they sell small electronics and such, the link is below. They do not sell solar panels, but I've found OKorder to be a great source for them. We have two small arrays here that run LED lights in parts of our home, and charge cell phones, ipods and small electronics. Take care Jorge, Rudydoo
- Q: What are the maintenance requirements for solar panels?
- The maintenance requirements for solar panels typically include regular cleaning to remove dirt and debris, checking for any damage or wear, ensuring proper electrical connections, and monitoring the performance of the panels. Additionally, it may be necessary to trim nearby trees or vegetation that could block sunlight and reduce the efficiency of the panels. Overall, proper maintenance helps to maximize the lifespan and efficiency of solar panels.
- Q: How do solar panels convert sunlight into electricity?
- Solar panels convert sunlight into electricity through a process known as the photovoltaic effect. This involves the use of semiconducting materials, typically silicon, which absorb photons from sunlight. When the photons strike the solar panel, they transfer their energy to the electrons in the material, allowing them to break free from their atoms. This generates an electric current, which is then captured and harnessed by the solar panel to produce usable electricity.
- Q: 3.8 volts is required to fully charge a battery. But at 3.8 volts, the battery can be overcharged without the use of a controller correct? What if I don't care if the battery is fully charged? In the case of our family boat, I just installed a new radio, so I'm a little worried about power consumption. So now for the real question; If I hook a 2 volt panel to the batteries, do I need to worry about overcharging them? Or will the batteries stop the charging process once they reach 2 volt?I built the panel myself, it's 8 volts at 3.5 amps open circuit. I have tabs at every 3 volt increment on the panel so that I can use less voltage than 8 if I want to power something directly, (ex:2 volt radio)So I'm using the 2 volt tab at 3.5 amps(approx) for a total of approx 48 watts
- I have been using solar panels for over ten years never until recently bothered to use a charge controller, it depends really on how much power your batteries can hold how often they will be drained from use of the connected dc-ac inverters. While constant daylight charging at 8v 3.5a/hr is quite heavy it is not excessive, 2v lead acid battery chargers give a voltage output of appx 4.8v but the fluctuating output of a solar panel means you may well charge at 8v for some time but with occasional shade etc it will more likely average at 5v which I think is quite acceptable.
- Q: Can solar panels be installed on a military base or facility?
- Yes, solar panels can definitely be installed on a military base or facility. In fact, many military bases around the world have already adopted solar energy as a means to reduce their reliance on fossil fuels and increase their energy independence. Solar panels can be installed on rooftops, parking lots, or open fields within the base, providing a sustainable and reliable source of clean energy. The use of solar panels on military bases not only helps to reduce carbon emissions but also enhances the resiliency and security of the base's energy infrastructure.
- Q: I wanna start going green, you know like solar panels, wind turbines, etc. but where I live the companies that install the free solar panels in exchange for the subsidiaries aren't available. To start off I was just looking for a single panel I could drill into my roof and wire it to an outlet just for small thinks like charging my phone and a fan maybe. If anybody can understand my crazy idea please answer with links to where I can find these things. Thanks!
