We haven’t entered into installation sector, but we have the plan in near future.
- Q: I want to install a solar panel on my car. I want to know that how much energy can be generated by a panel of size 4 foot by 6 foot. and the cost of installation.
- A little more than 0 watts per square foot, so that size panel would generate 250 watts under ideal conditions, which is noon on a sunny but not too hot day, near the equator. That's about /3 horsepower, or the same power as a man working hard. That is larger than needed to keep the battery of the car charged, unless you plan to run a laptop or something off it at night. The power is also too small to power the car for driving. If it's an electric car, you could get maybe another 2 miles per day out of the car, again, under ideal conditions. An RV store might have an idea of how much installation would cost. They would be accustomed to solar panels for RV's, but probably not small cars. A panel of that size would cost perhaps $500-800 just for the panel.
- Q: What is the difference between Photovoltaic Panels and Solar Panels?
- Both of them are different types of solar panel. EDIT: Misspelling on Jeff's answer below! I think he means 'silicon,' not 'silicone!' Solar cells are typically grown on a glass substrate or put onto glass. Silicon is currently the most common material, followed by CdTe or cadmium telluride. Other materials like CIGS (Copper Indium Gallium (di)Selenide) are breaking into the market. Some people have great hopes for organic or 'dye' solar cells.
- Q: Photo-Voltaic solar panels are very expensive. Most of a home's energy needs are for heating water, heating and air-conditioning. All of these can be met with thermal solar collectors which are much less expensive. The thermal solar panels would heat water stored in a hot water tank which then can be used as hot water, to heat the home, or as the heat source to a Lithium Bromide Absorption chiller to air-condition a home. With the base line needs met without expensive panels and without inefficient energy conversions, only a small Photo-Voltaic array would be needed for the remaining power needs and since those needs are variable, there would still be power to sell to the grid.
- Just read some of the other posts and I am surprised at the answers. Solar thermal systems typically have a payback of less than seven years on residential system without the tax break. A complete system can be installed for about 5k or less. Compare that to 20k or more for PV with a fifteen to twenty year pay off. Each home and area is different so a site evaluation must be done for exact figures and pay offs. I am going off my own experience in my above statements Flat panel collectors work well in most areas for DHW. Evacuated tubes often run too hot which works well for some applications or high usage. Heating water is the single greatest energy usage other than space heating and cooling. It often surpasses the two above systems based on its widespread usage(every houshold in USA has one) and its the amount it is used(24/7@365) The amount of energy spent to heat water is by order of magnitude the greatest number out there. Having a solar thermal system providing hot water for a average American household is equivalent to taking 40,000 miles off the freeway in a car every year. The BTU's required to heat the water is huge. So why is this more developed cheaper and more efficient technology behind PV in awareness? Natural Gas the number one choice for heating water is cheap. It's by product is invisible and misunderstood. What I find fascinating is if you look at the increase in Natural Gas vs Electricity you will be surprised by how much it has jumped in the last seven years. It is not talked about nearly as much as electricity It does not get the same level of press that PV does. So in short the answer is cheap Natural Gas prices and public perception of this product have kept it off the list of many that are turning toward the green trend. It is less sexy than watching your meter spin backwards. It is the best improvement at the best cost except for conservation which is and was the most cost effective energy saving that can be employed
- Q: Can solar panels be used in areas with high temperatures?
- Yes, solar panels can be used in areas with high temperatures. In fact, solar panels are designed to withstand a wide range of temperatures, including high heat. While excessive heat may slightly reduce their efficiency, modern solar panels are equipped with cooling mechanisms that help maintain their performance even in hot climates.
- Q: Can solar panels be installed on a shaded area?
- Solar panels can still be installed in shaded areas, but they may not be as effective in generating electricity compared to panels installed in direct sunlight. The amount of shade and duration of shading throughout the day will impact the overall energy output of the solar panels.
- Q: Okay, I think I understand what I'm doing, but I want to set up some solar panels on the roof of my garage, the building that gets the most sun, and I want to make sure all my math is correct in determining number of megawatts per year. However, my knowledge of electrical terms in quite n00bish, to say the least. Here is what I think I should be doing. The solar cells come at .75 Watts average power.I will install 4 panels of 64 cells each, with a total of 256 cells.
- For comparison, 36 of these make a normal 2V x 50W panel. Note they are not tabbed. This means you have to find a way to connect them yourself. The tabs are probably spot welded on by the suppliers. A supplier below has kits of these with tabs, as needed to connect them together. These are not suitable for grid connect, because the higher voltage needed makes do it yourself panels a dangerous and litigious thing to have on your roof. Maybe you could buy a smaller pack from the link below to compare tabbed and untabbed and work out what to do. Your power calculation is a bit incorrect because the sun is only present some of the time. The 36 cell module would produce 50W when square on to the full sun. The sun may be out for around 2h a day in some places and times of the year. However it is the equivalent of 5h full sun, because of the changing angle throughout the day. Look this up on the internet for your region. Temperate zones may be a lot less. One pack in your link is 36x3 = 08 cells. Thus 50W per pack x 5h a day gives 750Wh per day and 274KWh/y. In reality it will always be less because of regions, weather, clouds, dust, inefficiencies, aging of cells.
- Q: Can solar panels be used for powering security systems?
- Yes, solar panels can be used to power security systems. Solar panels convert sunlight into electricity, which can be used to power various devices, including security cameras, alarms, and sensors. This allows security systems to operate independently of the electrical grid, making them more reliable and cost-effective in remote locations or areas prone to power outages. Moreover, solar-powered security systems are also environmentally friendly, reducing reliance on fossil fuels and minimizing carbon emissions.
- Q: what is the average cost, for a single family home, to install solar panels? I live in CA.
- I just got a quote for my place. It came out $8/Watt installed. The quote was for 24 - 20W panels. Dividing the total quoted price by the 24 panels comes out to $,750 per panel. This includes the complete system with the converter and cutoff switch to connect it to the grid. This is also a top-of-the-line system. There are cheaper systems with shorter life spans. My quote was for a system with a 30 year life expectancy. There is a Federal tax credit in 2009 of 30% that will bring the system cost down. There are also nice state tax incentives in CA.
- Q: Can solar panels be installed on mobile homes?
- Yes, solar panels can be installed on mobile homes.
- Q: Can solar panels be used for powering electric gates?
- Yes, solar panels can be used to power electric gates. Solar panels convert sunlight into electricity, which can be used to operate various electrical devices, including electric gates. This renewable energy source is an environmentally-friendly and cost-effective solution for powering gates in remote or off-grid locations.
