Q: The slab can vary in depth from -1inch to 0inch over a 10 foot range.we tried self leveling concrete. some parts of our initial pour, when we just learning did not turn out so well. now there are small areas that are as much as +.75inches.Can we shave/grind the high spots down. Do you recommend that we grind these spots down before installing the flooring?
I do highly reccomend doing a job right. If you want a good job, either do a level set or rent a grinder and level the floor.
Q: The house near the beach should be more damp to ask with solid wood flooring, solid wood flooring, laminate flooring which is more suitable, more durable
Multi-layer solid wood composite more appropriate, it is both solid wood flooring, to strengthen all the advantages of the floor, but also much better than the solid wood flooring stability, strengthen the stability of the floor is not as good as him. Formaldehyde is also better than the strengthening of the floor, like parrot flooring some large manufacturers are using melamine modified plastic, formaldehyde content is minimal. Multi-layer solid wood composite skin are some valuable wood species, if it is solid wood flooring, then it is very expensive. In the seaside humidity is relatively large, strengthen the floor is the most afraid of wet, solid wood flooring is more obvious, damp expansion is very powerful, and multi-layer parquet is the wood Cut into thin slices, and then criss up the pressure, the stability can be imagined ah. On a word, stable! It is recommended to use multi-layer parquet
Q: i have moisture on the floor all along one of my walls, about 6 or 7 boards have to be replace.the floor is just glued to the concrete slab, i went to homedepot to buy something to apply to the concrete or something to apply before installing the new floor, but the clerk told me i have to replace the whole floor, because there is nothing to apply before the floor and underlayments are too thick and the floor would not be leveled. Please can anyone help me with a solution so i dont have to replace 1000sq ft of floor.thank you
You definitely do not have to replace 1000 ft2 of floor. The problem you are having is one of the reasons I did not go with the glued floor, I could not figure out how to vapor proof the floor from water. I would take out the boards that are bad and then asses the problem if you have to take out one more farther in to get a good place to bond to. I replaces a piece in the middle of a regular hardwood floor once and it takes a bit of time and patience to remove the bad piece without messing up the good ones that can be left. If you can leave the toungue or groove on the mating piece to match up to. Make sure the area is clean of the old glue. I would then get some of the cushion vapor barrier that you can buy and put it under the boards that are going over the moisture problem area. I do not think a coating would work. A 1/8 inch layer should not be noticeable and if it is go back and remove another board to lessen the slope of the floor. You could also use some 15 pound roofing felt to give a vapor barrier. Then when you glue back try to attach the new boards to the underside of the old boards so that glue does not come through. And note before you do this I would go to a wood flooring store and ask an experienced installer if you are going in the right direction. If you plead stupidity it is remarkable what you can learn from some of those old guys.
Q: Are there any formaldehyde on the composite floor?
In the composite wood floor, due to residual formaldehyde that does not participate in the reaction, it will gradually release to the surrounding environment in gaseous form. When people are in a high concentration of formaldehyde, the eyes, the nasal cavity and the breath Excitement will occur discomfort, harm to health.
Q: Trying to redo the basement. Do I need to lay some type of subfloor or can I lay the engineered flooring directly onto the concrete?
there are several types of engineered floors. Some will resist dampness from concrete and some will not. Since you are putting the floor down in a basement you should investigate your material further.
Q: Is the surface of the composite floor smooth or not smooth? Ask the professional to give the correct answer.
Hello: composite flooring is generally bright tiger field Hong Kong tyrants song alchemy attack each other, half-dumb, matte. Light to look good. Is not wearable. It is not good to spend. I think the family is still a little better with matte. More practical. Composite flooring can not be judged as smooth, the quality of composite wood flooring is based on the surface of the material to determine the level of wear resistance, the general surface of the material by the cloth wheel rotation polished to measure the time, that is, 1500 rpm and 1800 rpm Wait
Q: Want to ask the solid wood flooring should be how to maintain my home is the "home of life" solid wood flooring, usually with a mop to play wet water smooth 粻 pull to save the chew chew to help the wedge blind dry drag the ground do not know this right? Need special care and care? More
Solid wood flooring, can be maintained, you can not maintenance. Unlike the solid wood flooring (Chang 粻 pull to save the chew chew pillow blasting blind must wax). Usually wipe with a wet mop, not very good. The floor is often exposed to water, there will be water alkali attached, resulting in floor loss of light. Recommended to do the most simple maintenance: every six months rubbing orange oil --- remove the alkali, to restore luster.
Q: Composite floor fire effect is good?
Floor fire, the first should be based on fiberboard, particleboard, gluing open lotus yeast, such as the use of paint or impregnated paper as the finishing material, through the flame retardant treatment, to achieve a certain flame retardant grade. Flame-retardant features of the wood composite floor, to achieve the B1 level of fire-retardant standards and the level of toxic standards, the main types are: wear-resistant composite solid wood flooring, water-resistant plastic floor, laminate flooring. Currently on the market with fire protection features only composite laminate flooring, wood flooring and bamboo flooring if added fire or fire retardant coating also has a certain fire retardant effect.
Q: Home bedroom composite flooring recently damped arch particularly serious, the area is also growing, with the foot up to the water seepage, but the home did not seep water and the bedroom where there is no water leakage, the floor did not soak the water. The most serious arch is the place next to the door and the window, the middle of the place ok, basically no effect. Do not know what is the reason, is the floor back to the tide or with this year's weather often rain related? Home decoration has been a few years, this year only Huashu Shu makeup remover show off the situation. Question added: my house on the third floor, there is no room inside the heating, the family in addition to the toilet to take the tide of the tumbler makeup remover, the other room did not take the water, the family did not rain leaking. Two floors are assembled between the cracks around the place where the arch is the most serious. More
The floor is mainly caused by the damp, but stepped on the water seepage should not be the cause of the tide may not pay attention to sprinkle water. It is advisable to have ventilation in sunny days.
Q: We had bought some Virginia Millworks 1/2 thick hand scraped engineered nail down flooring for our kitchen. I had asked the guy at Lumber Liquidators where we bought it from if I needed to take the flooring out of the boxes to let it acclimate and he said no, that I could leave it in the boxes. When we got it home all we did was remove the plastic wraping from the boxes and then let the boxes sit side by side, not stacked, in the kitchen. We don't have a lot of space to leave the flooring out anyway. I then got sick for a while so everything sat in the kitchen as we left it for 3 weeks. I'm better and ready to lay it down this weekend but I just read that if I don't have a moisture meter to test the moisture content then I should lay the flooring out of the packaging for 7 days. Should I still do that or do you think having the flooring resting 3 weeks in unsealed cardboard boxes is fine? It's going down over a raised wooden sublfoor with red rosin paper, if it matters. Thanks in advance.
You should be fine. Moisture testing is generally done for new construction since subflooring can be exposed to the weather and it will take a long time to dry properly.Unless of course your floor has been exposed to these conditions, which I don t think so..The only thing I would ve done was to open the boxes, but thats generally done when acclamating the wood for a 72 hr time frame.Rosin paper is fine.. As far as cleats or staples are concerned, that should be check w/ the manufacturer. Staples are now usually ok from the makers , but make sure 1st, you don t want to void your warranty. The length of the staple will be specified too. To drive staples there are 2 types of guns you can use.The stand up and drive them in or a special trigger type gun that you are on your knees and shoot them in. This is the method I prefer w/ the engineered wood since its easier to set the wood in place and staple. Don t forget a 10$ pair of knee pads. Any other questions you can e mail me thru my avatar GL
