To get a real estate license involves in-depth study, and then you have to take and pass the exam in the state where you plan to work. Some states are reciprocal, which means your license may be valid in other states besides the one you're planning to work in. Let me warn you, however, that the test is not easy, and many people fail to pass it on the first try. However, you can repeat it as many times as you wish. With regard to the other careers, you'd have to check with the universities offering the courses to find out the requirements and what courses you need to take. I would not recommend taking too many classes at one time. The real estate course in itself requires intense study. You are to be admired for your ambition, but don't bog yourself down with too much, as it will defeat your purpose. Settle on one thing at a time, and you'll have better luck.

How would one go about starting THEIR OWN real estate business?: Real Estate Sales is completely commissioned. If you are selling you're making money. Some Real Estate Sales people in New York City have made HUGE money, others are scraping along. In Real Estate more than other sales, you MUST have connections. So, if you have connections (relatives, college friends, etc.) who live in affluent neighborhoods and know people they can connect you with, you'll do fine. If you are a nobody in the city, you'll be scraping along with rentals in Queens. In New York more than anything you gotta have chutzpah, moxie, connections and intelligence. Got one or two? You get bupkis.

Most of the Real Estate Agents that I have met are not competent to represent Clients because they are very poorly trained. I have been investing in Real Estate for over 40 years. I never use Real Estate Agents because they are incompetent. I do hire Real Estate Appraisers who are Members of The Appraisal Institute to advise me on Fair MArket Value of property because Appraisers who have achieved the MAI designation (Member of The Appraisal Institute) are competent. If you are serious about Real Estate, I recommend that you start your training with The Appraisal Institute. The Appraisal Institute has an excellent training program. Even if you do not want to be a Real Estate Appraiser, you need to be competent to estimate the Fair MArket Value of Real Estate if you are going to do a competent job of representing clients. I recommend that you do a Google search for The Appraisal Institute and contact them. Get information about their training program. Once you have completed the training program then get some experience working for a Real Estate Appraiser who is a Member of the Appraisal Institute. Once you have that experience, then you will be ready to get your Real Estate License and begin representing clients.

Even if you can prove you gave your brother money, IF your name has been removed from the new deed on refinance and unless the 'agreement' you signed gives your an ownership interest in the home, you have nothing. CONTRARY TO THE OTHER POST: Neither the other poster nor I have read this 'agreement' you signed therefore, without such knowledge there can be no claim of fraud on any level that is not irresponsible. If you feel the need, then take this 'agreement' to a local real estate attorney for review. Be forewarned however, if you interfer with the sale and/or closing of the new home without legal grounds, your brother will have a good cause of action against YOU for interference with a business relationship. So tread very carefully and before acting on such advice, have all documents and facts reviewed by a local Real Estate attorney. From your explanation of the events, it seems you signed a quit claim deed which effectively removes your name from the home (you gifted your portion to your brother) and if you are deemed a competent adult of legal capacity, then there is no fraud. The court cannot and will not void a contract simple because you did not read it.
