Q: Im hearing this like every day theres more going down..why is it happening? A terrorist plot perhaps? I say we send some troops to stand guard and prevent another tragedy!: These are dangerous peices of equipment, they endure high stress and are at times pushed to the physical limits. I have on occassion worked with and under them and always had a lot of respect and always felt safer when away from them. Construction cranes in particular are more dangerous because they are forever changing in height,position, amount and type of load. Cranes in permanent installations are ususlly carrying same or similar loads. Construction sites are hazardous due to many factors but just about everything on site gets handled by the crane at one time or another. Inspection,inspection, and re-inspection with concurrent correction/adjustment are the only preventative measure availble beside the assurance of competency of the operator. There are plenty of laws about them already but this is not to say new ones might be justified as new hazards become apparent. Most terrorists are too dumb or lazy to get involved with cranes--why bother when so many easy targets are out there !!!!!!!!

Q: I've always been puzzled how cranes operate.Because as buildings get taller so do cranes but i don't know how they increase the height of the cranes.Can you help answer this please?: search for others, animation and video of process more edit Some cranes actually climb the structure of the building and are taken apart when the building reaches its full height.

Q: I just can't figure this out. They need a crane to assemble tall buildings, but how do they assemble the crane? Especially if the building is over 20 stories high. What crane can build a crane higher than itself?: a mobile crane sets the original lower sections in place, and then the crane is assembled in 6' sections as it climbs itself.

Q: how do construction crews put up a crane?: They assemble it on a concrete foundation using a mobile crane. To grow taller, the top unit of the tower crane has a jacking mechanism that lets it raise itself up and insert another tower section.

Q: I read a book a year ago about sadako sasaki who tried to make all 1000 paper cranes to live. Do you have to keep saying your wish over again when your making them, and when you finished making all 1000 how long did you wait until your wish came true??: you make your wish once your done cause you only get the wish if you have 1000 cranes right so saying your wish when you only have 6 won't do anything. it can come true the next day till the next year or ten years it not something definite. I've never made 1000 but I think I will.

Thanks for the help! xP: I'd mention his book Red Badge of Courage and how it changed the war novel for American and English writers. You can look at books like Catch-22 , MASH, or Hemingway's war novels and find that personal voice that Crane used.

Q: For anyone who has read/studied Stephen Crane - do you know of any connecting theme within his most famous short stories (the open boat, the blue hotel, the bride comes to yellow sky, the monster)?I was think naturalism b/c it is so prevalent in the open boat but is really the only short story naturalism is in: sorry, i haven't read any Crane short stories, but i'm a HUGE fan of his poetry. it's some of the most bleak, raw, yet honest poetry i've ever read.
