It's a cane not a crane. Whew! To summarize, what happened to House's leg was that there was muscle death of the leg. He should have had it amputated, but he didn't. Instead, he wound up with a nearly useless, and chronically painful leg. Stacy, as a participant in this demise, well, I guess the relationship was all downhill from there. House realizes it was all his fault. If he would have just got the amputation, he wouldn't have screwed it all up Stacy is his ex-wife.

Do not know where you live but I worked in a Shipyard in South Mississippi That had Cranes which picked up Modules which weighed 100 tons. Most were in the range of 50 to 70 tons the limiting factor was the range of the lift away from the crane. The further away from the Crane the less the load limit but the Cranes were rail mounted so they could traverse and carry the load anywhere. We had one Crane capable of handling 500 tons, a real monster. These are all located at Pascagoula Mississippi. Most were imported from Germany.
Q: My understanding is that under Crane doctrine the tax basis of the property to begin with is Equity Invested + Financing (recourse or nonrecourse doesn't matter). i.e. 20K down + 80K purchase money mortgage = 100K. What if the property is appraised for only 80K right before purchase but purchaser paid 100K? Your understanding of Crane is correct. For purposes of calculating the gain on sale, the basis would be $100k. What Crane really said was that the net proceeds would have to include any assumed debt, in addition to any cash received -- basically that you had to include the debt on both ends of the transaction if my reading is correct. (That jives with the example in Commissioner v Tufts et al, 81-1356 so I think we're correct on that.) Where basis gets interesting is when you are calculating depreciation. At least when you convert a residential property to business use -- i.e. a rental -- you use the LESSER of the cost basis (Crane) or the FMV on the date that the property is placed in business(rental) service. In your example, the depreciable basis would be $80k since that was the lower. For calculating the gain on sale, the cost basis would still be $100k (adjusted down for any depreciation allowed or allowable while in business use of course).

To account for the inefficiencies, and startup currents, you should have a 200 kW (200 kVA) inverter with peak power of 800 kW. The batteries would have to store and deliver about 150 kW. But lead acid batteries would need to be of a higher capacity to guarantee that power level for 1/2 hour, which calculates to 75 kW-hour. I'd say 100 kW-hour capacity. A large 12 volt battery can store about 100 amp-hours which translates to 1 kW-hour, so you would need 100 of this size batteries connected in series/parallel. I made a lot of guesses, you should get better numbers for the motors, the inverters and batteries for a more accurate calculation. An inverter of the size needed will not be a 12 volt unit, but probably 48 or 96 volts DC. so you need to configure your batteries in series parallel to get that voltage. Altogether, the 100 large batteries make this not a practical solution. There are lots of large cranes in the world, what do they use for backup? And why do you need backup. With no power, the clutches would keep the crane and loads fixed in position, my guess.
