- Q: My dad layed tiles in his kitchen recently. He had some plywood type stuff that he layed them on top of so they are on a flat, even surface. But then someone told him he should have put a netting type stuff underneith the tiles too, to keep them from breaking. Is that very important, will his floor be ruined now?
- Its called wire mesh. Its not used as much anymore. What makes tiles or grout crack is the wood below the tiles. If the floor joists are too far apart and the plywood is not thick enough it can cause the floor to move. Even a little bit of movement can cause the tiles and the grout to crack. The wire mesh will not help if the floor moves.
- Q: hey guys my house just got renovated a few days ago... it seems like some tiles have tough stains on it. is there a type of detergent or anything that removes it off? it looks well ugly and makes the surface rough... it's on both my floor and wall tiles
- The use of muratec acid will remove the glaze on the tile. Not sure if diluted will or not but I d never use it . The use of a metal chisel can leave marks on the tile that you ll never get off. First ,if this is thin set still on the tile get the tile person back to clean it off. Barring that , if you have to do it, scrape what you can off with something softer. I use a piece of wood. After the lumps come off use a white nylon pad and go over the tile dry with it.Special pads used for tile clean up can be bought most any place that sells tile. Their called a doodle bug pad. While your there you might want to get a small bottle of grout and effervescent remover.About $8 for an 8 oz bottle. If going over the tile dry doesn t remove it, then go with the cleaner.Doing it wet right away will only reintroduce any removed thin set or grout to the tile. After all cleaned up consider sealing the tile ,but not before it s cleaned.Tile Lab and Cerama Seal sealers work well. You ll ned to wait for a minimum of 72 hours with all pentatrating sealers Any questions you can e mail me thru my avatar GL
- Q: Im going to put tile floors in my home, and working on a budget so i cant spend too much. question is I am undecided regarding the color, i found a brownish color tile kinda like sienna not to dark 16x16 and another beige with cream and is glossy with a design etch on it really nice, but in a 12x12 i think. anyway, i really like the sienna color for the living room, kitchen, foyer and hallway, but i dont think it would look right in the bathroom, i like the beige for the bath. i have a very small bathroom so wold it look weird to have two diffrent tiles in a home? i plan to paint my living room in a grayish blue color french blue i think its called with white trim but still undecided in bathroom i really need some advise on this so if anyone knows please help
- maximum tilers could say the main suitable approach is to get them up and retile. for a valid reason, if the previous tiles are no longer nicely laid or poorly adhered the stresses of latest tiles on suitable could reason the previous ones to come back freed from the backside. somewhat a uncommon occurence, yet happens. so if its a clean shopper we factor that out to them and the alternative is theirs to enhance or tile over. use a single section versatile adhesive from an excellent shop(no longer b and q) . in the journey that your new tiles are of a matching length to the previous ones attempt to start up tiling with the help of laying them overlapping the previous ones. i:e the centre of your new tile lays on suitable of the grout line between 2 of the previous ones. this helps to unfold the tensions.
- Q: I need some guidance on hanging new wall tiles in my bathroom.1) can I tile over the existing tiles2) what are the pro‘s/con‘s of ready mixed adhesive against mix your own3) is all grout standard waterproof or do i need specialist stuff4) do you tile all the walls then replace the suite or put the new suit in first then tile? bearing in mind i hope to tile over existing tiles.5) is it true you shoudl first replace your bath, fill it with water and leave it overnight to level?Any guidance would be much appreciated......
- [1] Yes you can tile over the existing tiles, What you need to do first? Is to rough up with rough sandpaper on the existing tiles to give a bite for the new tiles to hold on. [2] It is better to have ready mix, because it will have every things in it [3] Most grout are waterproof and also you can get differ colour grouts to match your bathroom. [4] Put in your new suit first, then tiles on top of your existing tiles, and grouts it as well. [5] fill your bath first, then seal it, so it will have the weight of the bath and water in it and it wont break the seal and lest chance of a leak.
- Q: Can you have tile insalled in your kitchen w/o using grout in between tiles? Or, can you space the tiles very close together so there is very little grout? I just keep hearing about how hard it is to clean grout.
- You can have the grout lines small but the trick is to seal the grout a week after you install it. You can reseal the grout a few times a year to keep it up. Also, business is slow right now so you might want to consider granite. There are a lot of granite, tile and marble people looking for jobs. Not, Lowes or Home Depot -Call around to some granite marble places and get referrals. I had granite put in 2 years ago and absolutely love it!!!
- Q: Kent has a 2-ft by 2-ft square floor to cover with tiles. He has 38 tiles. Twelve of the tiles are 4-inch by 4-inch squares, ten are 4-inch by 8-inch rectangles, and the remaining 16 are 2-inch by 8-inch right triangles. What is the smallest number of pieces Kent can have left over after covering the floor? Please show your work if possible (like steps etc) You can solve it as a Geometry or in Algebric way which ever works for you. Thankyou To All That Solves!
- this is a gay question
- Q: I‘m getting some of my house tiled and would like to know if I am getting ripped off or not. It is going to be approximalte 600 sq ft with 2 upstairs bathrooms. The installer gave me a quote of $2400 to lay the tile (straight or diagonal, whichever I want). I will have to buy the tile and other materials on my own. The tile is going to be 18x18. The price includes ripping out the carpet and ripping out the tile that is already in the kitchen that will be replaced as well as the tile in the upstairs baths. Also included will be haul away of all the trash. Is this a good price or not?
- Normal price to just install tile and porcelain is no different to install, will range from 4/6 $ a s/f.. So he/ she is doing all the rip out / disposal and prep work for basically free.. If they do check out w/ their references and have all insurances.Liability and workmans comp, then you may well go for it.. Times are slow now and they may very well be cutting you a deal to get a good job. Any questions you have on how he/ she is doing it ( as far as what materials and such so you know their not cutting corners) you can e mail me through my avatar and check my qualifications there.. GL

- Q: Remodeling the bathroom...How can i drill a hole in ceramic tile...What kind of drill would I use..or what kind of file would be best to make a hole in the tile to go around the shower faucet..Thanks for your input...
- The composition of ceramic tiles is as different as there are countries in the world. For this reason, there is no one single answer on how to drill a hole in ceramic tile. There is, however, one drill bit that indeed will go through each and every tile, but you may have great difficulty locating it. Many ceramic tiles have a fairly soft inner core and a thin hard glaze on the outer surface that you look at. These are the very easy to drill through. The easiest tiles to drill into are very soft tiles that are often found in homes built in the southwestern part of the USA. Frequently these have no glaze or a very thin satin finish. Tile hardness is a function of the type of clay and its silica content used to make the tile. The final hardness of the tile is also directly related to the amount of time the tile is in the firing kiln and the temperature inside the kiln. High temperature and long baking times can produce rock-hard tile. Glass and porcelain tiles are very popular right now. These products are the hardest tiles to drill into. You can use a sharp carbide drill, but you need to oil or water the bit to keep it cool as it rotates on the tile. A diamond-encrusted bit will drill into porcelain or glass faster than carbide, but these bits are expensive. If you are drilling into softer tile, a regular carbide bit works fine. Do not use a hammer drill as the rapid vibrations can crack the tile. The trick is to use a slow drilling speed and carefully grind through the surface of the thin glaze. Once the bit gets into the softer core, the drill will rapidly cut through the softer fired clay. Do not apply too much pressure when you first drill as the drill and bit can slip away from the marked point and scratch the tile. The worst mistakes you can make are cracking or scratching a tile. If that happens, it will be a considerable amount of work to replace the damaged tile(s). Be careful and proceed slowly as you drill.
