Press fitting system joins pipe without welding or bolting. The components fit by crimping through the use of a special pressing tool. An O-ring that is inserted in the fitting ends of the pipe ensures a leak-proof connection. Press fitting system is the trend of pipeline industry. It is widely used in cold and hot water supply, heating supply, fire protection, medicinal gas, industrial petroleum pipeline system etc.

- The easiest solution is to measure the O.D. (outside dimension) of the pipe coming out of the wall, or take the piece you cut off. Go to a plumbing supply store (best) or to a Lowe's or Home Depot. The store salesman will find a pipe with the exact O.D. dimension you measured (to use as a reference only), then match up compression fittings to connect from the wall to a new horizontal piece, then to the p-trap. (What you called a J bend pipe). PVC fittings will be much easier to work with also. Connecting the drain housing to the sink is done using plumber's putty under the lip of the housing and tightening the nut underneath, which will create a waterproof seal. Do not use silicone.

- sharkbite fittings seem to work well, but mine are only a year old. you MUST true up [square up] the end of the pipe to be fitted and clean it as well. If that's copper, the smallest pipe cutter that will fit works ok, followed by sandpaper and a clean rag. the salesman at the store will help you understand. btw, my neighbor had a bad experience with the competitor's similar product. Since he's an a/c technician, I know he did the square up and clean process well, so the issue is the fittings themselves. sharkbite fittings can not be used within 18 inches of the hot water tank [on the hot or outlet side]. see store for other restrictions, including pressure.

- If you were having an inspection done, the inspector would question it. This is a DIYers helper. It will slow down the flow of water and is prone to starting a clog in the ridges. They are not very strong and will leak much sooner than regular pipe. If at all possible, use ridgid pipe and fittings. I won't say they are against code, just not a great option.

- I use to get Quest pipe fittings from Lowes, but they don't carry it anymore. I would check with a mobile home dealer in your area. (note: I did my current house with Quest when I built it in 2004, and no leaks have been noticed. I used the more expensive mechanical type fittings rather than the crush on type.) If all else fails, there is copper water lines, but I recommend you use mechanical fittings rather than solder type fittings. If you use copper, you will not have problems unless they freeze up.

- I bake a lot! Especially during the holidays so I've used a variety of pans for every kind of cookie etc I've found that the cheapy aluminum ones work the best! To keep them from being ruined- I've been using SILPATS which can be found at BED BATH AND BEYOND, Linens and Things and even TARGET They are a bit expensive but, so worth it! It's silicone/fiberglass flexible mat that not only protects you cookie sheets but, is completely NON-STICK so cookies cook evenly and slide right off the sheet It also cools quickly for multiple batchesIt's also GREAT for rolling pie dough onto and cooking meats and other things They retail for around $20 a piece Just don't cut on them I have 5 that I use in my kitchen for the past 6 yrs I simply love them I get my baking pans for around $2-3 dollars a piece.
