Likely there will be at least a small change in the no load volts. The short circuit current will be different and the watts output will be different. Connect an amp- meter to the panel with or without a to 00 ohm resistor in series with the amp-meter and you will see different amounts of current for different colors. You do however need to adjust for the amount of light falling on your solar panel. Possibly you can use a exposure meter or a bolo meter as reference. Neil

I think the point you're trying to make is that solar electricity is more expensive than other means of mass produced electricity today, and I would agree. However, that doesn't mean that solar panels are not worthwhile, especially to a consumer in the right location. After the electric company adds in its distribution fees and profit, residential solar electric can actually be cheaper. And in fact, we have had panels on our roof for the past 5 years. Somewhere in the world, there's a factory producing AA batteries to use in flashlights, cameras, and so forth. I'm certain the factory does not run off AA batteries, yet I find AA batteries invaluable for certain things around the house.

Let's say, positive lead of the solar cell to the the positive lead of the amp meter, the negative lead of the amp meter to one terminal of the variable resistor, and the wiper terminal of the variable resistor to the negative lead of the solar cell. Slowly decrease the value of the resistor until the voltage from the solar cell just begins to drop. Take note of the amp meter reading. This is about the high end range of the solar cell. You might want to begin with a micro-amp meter for the current meter.
