- Q:LCS , MCS , HCS?
- Good question! I have lots of experience driving cranes lifting boats in and out of the water mainly. But I don't really think this ever occurred to me. So I had a look around on the old www - which I do not usually do, much, in 'Answers'. But here's your answer, I reckon (another interesting QA site, too! - I leave you the thread in Source(s).): The steel used for crane hooks are based on the application. For cold temp. use you'll need LCC or low temp carbon steel (requiring Charpy Impact values of 15 foot pounds at - 25 degrees F. The materials used can be either cast ASTM A148, or 9060, or A487 4B or a forged 4140 material. All have the properties in the ASTM specs (see specs on line . com). All of these specs have specific heat treats that are part of the individual specs.
- Q:ok I found an injured crane what do I feed it?
- Cranes are omnivores. But I would feed crane with vegetarian stuff like grain, berries, plants, roots, seeds, stems, bulbs, fruits, nuts. But if you want make it non vegetarian then rodents, fish, amphibians, snakes, rodents, lizards, small fish, frogs, shellfish, mollusks and crustaceans.
- Q:What did Stephen crane contribute to history?
- I think his greatest contribution was The Red Badge of Courage. It was the most ealistic portrayal of a Civil War soldier written at the time; so real, in fact, that veterans swore the had fought alongside him during battle (Crane wasn't even alive during the war).
- Q:I'm not afraid of snakes, mice, spiders, or any insect, for that matter. Except crane flies. I'm not even afraid of mosquitoes! However, I've been afraid of crane flies since I was six. I live in Louisiana and The crane flies came today, exactly on the same day they came last year. I don't care about them outside but I freak out when they're inside- especially in my bedroom, the bathroom, and the living room. What can I do to a) protect my house from them and b) not be afraid of them? I'm 14 by the way.
- I'm glad i'm not the only one scared of crane flies! They're huge and when you crush them eggs or poop come out. ;A;
- Q:When you're training to work in construction, do you need to do a seperate course or qualification in order to be able to operate a crane? Or are all construction workers taught it in training?
- Of course you need specialised training! Crane operators have to sit several courses in safe crane operations. Crane operators tend to just work cranes and not help with general building work as they earn more money and it is only cost effective to have them on site when they are actually needing to use the crane.
- Q:i want to go to school and learn to operate over head cranes
- A few places to start the bureau of labor statistics has information on moving trades. You will need certification although requirements vary. The National Commission for the certification of Crane operators lists different types of operators and requirements for certification. States have their own laws about certification and requirements you can check it out, in some states certification is not required yet. I've included a link to the laws for Minnesota. There are a number of companies it would probably help if you are currently working in Construction and for a company that might help pay for the training or learn on the job. I don't know what state your in but there are a number of companies that do training you can do a quick search with Crane operator training. One other resource is the local Division of DET Division of Employment and Training for your state they can help you research your options and vocational counseling. Good Luck
- Q:Is there an effective utility for estimating the required size of a crane? I’m an estimator for a mechanical contractor, and it seems we never allow enough money for crane rental. How can I effectively adjust my estimates?
- The only effective way to estimate the size of a crane when needed is to know, without a doubt the weight of the heaviest thing that you have to lift, and allow at least a 20% margin for safety. This is standard practice in building bridges, in particular - the weight of EVERYTHING is clearly marked, or just generally known. If there are bridge segments to load on a barge, for example and the heaviest segments are 220 tons, then a 300 ton crane is used. Always err on the side of safety.
- Q:What prior education and skills are needed to become a Crane operator ?
- A basic education is required, no need for major courses. Skills however is developed through training. One is communication skills using a radio. Because crane operators have a partner called rigger, who overlooks the movement of crane below while telling instruction to the crane operator. Another skill is synchronization. Crane operators should possessed good movement synchronization and operation of levers and buttons inside his cabin. Another is good eyesight. Lastly, safety skill. Operators should know the capacity or the equipment he is operating and the calibration of the machine he is using.
- Q:my 7 year old son swears that a crane jumper is a type of animal...any one heard of this??
- I googled crane jumper and came up with nothing. Not to say there isn't such a creature, that could be a regional name for it, it might be called something else.
- Q:Any difference?
- The crane part can be identical, but the vehicle part differs: in the former case it's a road-going (even multi-axle) truck, in the latter case it's an off-road vehicle with oversize all-terrain tires and appropriate traction and transmission capabilities. In either case, the vehicle must be stabilized on adjustable hydraulic struts before hoisting.
