Q:How would I make a concrete couch for my back yard or any kind of mold for that matter? What do artist use to make things like that then put tile on them as mosaics.
Hi: You could probably use hypertufa - there are numerous recipes for it, and it can be made to simulate old mossy stone. The main component of it is portland cement, and then an organic component, like sifted peat moss or sawdust, a strengthening component, like loose fiberglass or plastic, and perlite, vermiculite or sand. Items made with this can withstand temperatures down to -20f, and you can shape it pretty easily, and carve into it for a few hours while it's curing. You can do a search for this term on yahoo and find a lot of links with recipes for making it. If you do want to make a real concrete item with mosaic elements, you might check out the wetcanvas sculpture channel. There are many threads and articles with photos and steps that would help you with this process. There are also items here that have been made with hypertufa. In a nutshell, a form is made with some material, and chicken wire is formed over that, and a concrete mixture is added over the top and mosiac elements are added in either during the process or afterward and grouted in. Hope this helps, and I hope your project goes well. Wetcanvas is a wonderful artist community website, and basic membership is completely free. There are currently more than 110,000 worldwide members, and many artistic channels for just about any type of artwork you can think of.
Q:I need to remove pollutants with a limited amount of materials. They include: soda bottles, plastic tubing, cotton, duct tape, poly-fish filter, activated charcoal, coffee filters, kitty litter, vermiculite, baking soda, paper towal, gauze, sand, clay, soil, cardboard, rocks, and hot glue. I really dont know the best way to do this, and so it would be great if someone could share theirs with me asap. thank you! [:
depends on the incubator realy. and just the batch of verm. iv had batches of verm that i had only to put a lil water in to make it moust enough for snake eggs.. and then theres been other batches that ive had to play mad scientist and add water.. and water and water and water every day in my fridge incubator and in the zoomed ones... it reay depends on the batch how old it is and just how well in general. personaly i check on my eggs every day or 2 for air. and i check the temps every few hours [just cause im super cautious] but the first day or 2 there in there when i check my temps i check the eggs a lil to see the moisture.. just depends bro.. gl
Q:WHERE CAN I GET VERMICULITE, FOR GROWING MUSHROOMS?
mica windows were generally installed on furnaces (way back when) sheet mica has no place for water to collect - but in the case of vermiculite - Vermiculite is a general term applied to mica-like platy minerals that contain up to 4% water, chemically trapped between the mica sheets. Upon rapid heating to temperatures in excess of 900°C, the trapped water changes to steam, forcing the mineral sheets to expand, forming an expanded vermiculite product. My text follows - Mica can be treated with high pressure steam (400 psi) , then immediately passed through a high heat environment 900-1000C - resulting in expanded mica a.k.a. vermiculite. Silicon popcorn, with a dash of potassium and fluorine for 'flavor'. At 1200C this can be fused with ceramic materials yeilding a surface that has to be seen to be appreciated.
Q:I'm breeding both my females this year and am wondering what the ratio if for the water:vermiculite. I have heard that you multiply the vermiculite weight in grams by .8 and and add that answer to the weight of vermiculite, then add the water until you get to that number. So just say that the vermiculite was 40. Multiply this by .8 which is 32. so 40+32=72 grams. Then add the water until you get to 72 grams. Is this right?
You may not be able to find peat moss as some countries have put a ban on using it in garden compost. Vermiculite should be no problem it might just be a language thing.
Q:I need some real help balancing the nutrients, with the texture, and correct strength. The constituents are about a year old, so they may have broken down slightly.Does it matter if I mix the shlts in with the soil, and vermiculite, or could I simply add on-goingly the manures in water. Will it last longer if it's mixed in? What is the correct dilution for tomato plants? They're all healthy, but I have to get these in some bigger pots stat!I should've just gotten the right soil, huh?
If it were me, even though I was using paper - I would make some holes in the bag to release any 'excess' moisture. Also, check them periodically to make sure they are not drying out too much. It's a bit of a juggling act - they need to stay dry and cool like basement conditions but they shouldn't start to shrivel. If they do, I would remove the bulbs from the vermiculite - spray the vermiculite LIGHTLY with water - shake it up and return the bulbs to their winter bed.
Q:Can planting soil sand be replaced with perlite or vermiculite?
Planting and culturing soil sand can be replaced by perlite or vermiculite. The sand of the river is mainly porous and permeable. Perlite or vermiculite itself has more pores, and the effect is better than that of dense sand. Pay attention to the choice of larger particles of vermiculite, otherwise the effect is worse.
Q:Hi there. My snake is pregnant and she should lay any day now. My incubator is warmed up to 85 Degrees Fahrenheit but I am not sure whether I will need to keep the moss in the laying box moist when they are being incubated, or just to leave them. Also, will I need to separate the hatchlings after they hatch and how long after and what containers would be appropriate? Thanks!
I have purchased vermiculite (the granular kind) at The Home Depot. It's inside though, with the houseplants, not in the garden center.
Q:How to grow amaryllis from seed?
The safest way to determine your tread wear limit is to find out what it is from the tire company. Then head to your local motorcycle shop and get a tread wear gauge. As in this manner you can get a unmistakable picture of how worn your tire really is.
Q:Is the vermiculite the leopard gecko egg is sitting on supos to be cold and moist?
I found some eggs that were going to be run over on a job site I would like an answer to my question rather than a bunch of stupid remarks
Q:I bought a aloe vera plant the only one left in the store. This plant has 8 leaves on it and all are drooping down. The leaves that are on there feel full when I slightly squeeze them. The root where all the leaves are coming from is seperating from the dirt. The soil does seem very dry. While I was unwrapping the plant when i got home one of the leaves had been broken off.How would I properly replant this leave to make a new plant? How do I make this into a healthy plant?Any information suggestions will be greatly appreciated
Sounds like it was overwatered Just let it sit in the sun for a while and recover. Resist the urge to water it too much.
