- Q: can i put house plant soil into my planted aquarium?
- Don't even think about it. Any chemicals that have got onto soil will kill your fish. Aquarium plants don't need soil anyway.
- Q: what are the differences between sand and potting soils?
- proper soil is purely that, black prosperous organic soil scraped from the proper of the floor. Potting soil has vermiculite and pear lite in it for aeration. a stable potting soil additionally will incorporate particularly some varieties of fertilizer.
- Q: I need to know what (or what kind of) stores sell perlite and vermiculite so if anyone can help me out it would really mean alot.oh, and price of each would be extremely helpful.

- Q: So about 3 weeks ago I planted some teeny tiny Venus Fly Trap seeds, but instead of getting Perlite for them I bought Vermiculite and planted them in that. They're not growing, and I've had them in indirect sunlight all day since I planted them. And I water the peat moss soil every other day with just one spray. Is the vermiculite keeping them from growing?
- if your female was not with a male then the egg is not fertile. leopard gecko eggs that are fertile will grow just a little as the embryo grows inside the egg. you also need to remove the fertile eggs an use an incubator (for the best hatch results) by candling the egg you need to be extremely care full not to rotate the egg at all. reptile embryo's attach themselves to the top of the egg, if it is torn away from the spot it attaches itself to the embryo will die. if you do not have an incubator then leave the egg's where they are (if she layed them in some sort of incubation substrate, like ecco-peat or peat moss) keep an eye on them and if they collapse into themselves or mold then the eggs are dead. do not put any sort of moisture directly onto the egg's, this will cause them to mold and die. hope this helps
- Q: Would it be safe to bring in a dry log from out side and put it in my terrarium with my T or dose this pose a threat to my T‘s health?
- It can pose a threat, depending on if it came from a part of the yard that may have been treated with chemicals. It could also have mites or other microorganisms living in the wood. Your best bet is to sterilize the branch before you put it in with your T. There are different methods of doing this- you can boil it in water, or bake it in the oven to kill anything that could be harmful. You'll want to thoroughly clean it first to make sure any chemicals are gone.
- Q: Im making my own incubator and trying to hatch my leopard geckos eggs but no store around me has any vermiculite, perlite, or hatch rite. I have plenty of wet moss that i have in their wet hide and they lay in it with the eco earth rock hide. So can i use the wet moss as an incubation substrate?
- we use a small 18inch viv, with the eggs placed in a small tub containing moist perlite with a heat mat linked to a thermostat so they eggs are at a constant temperature. this way works really well as some of our eggs hatched after only 36 days...and they were at the lower temps for females as well. in the past though we have used the same setup only in a polystyrene fish box. once we even managed to incubate eggs successfully in the airing cupboard!!
- Q: The rents are re-renovating my house, (it was built in the fifties) and we found some vermiculite in the attic. We know that they used it for insulation, but we want to remove it. I was wondering if it was cancerous. And if it is, if there are any safe ways of removing it?
- Hmmm, last thing I knew is that all combustibles must be at least three inches away from the stainless steel pipe. I would just stick the pipe through the chimney. Heat loss causes creosote build up. Yep! Have you heard the bad stuff about breathing dust from Vermiculite? Saw a documentary on Tv the other day, about the workers who make the stuff, dying of a cancer like asbestiosis,(sp). Guess you better go with the foil back ceramic wool blanket. This sounds like a recipe for a fire! Clean the chimney out regularly, and use the salt stuff once in a while to clean. Got the name of a good chimney sweep?
- Q: What is the bulk density of asphalt vermiculite? Is it better to use asphalt, vermiculite or cement vermiculite when roofing?
- Cement vermiculite, that is, cement and vermiculite mixed together, construction needs water at the scene, solidification formed after a light insulation material, usually used for roofing or ground insulation. The bulk density of cement vermiculite is about 600-800KG/m3.If only from the bulk density angle, the asphalt vermiculite certainly is better than the cement vermiculite
- Q: What is the difference between perlite and vermiculite and orchid stone?
- Perlite brittle particles are commonly used substrates, vermiculite breathable water storage, orchid stone do not understand
- Q: I have a Kohleria plant and a C. Lindenia (two tropical plants not normally found in nurseries; both are related to each other; found them at a plant show) I found metal pieces/flakes in the soil that I do not think were there when I first got them. I watered them yesterday and they both smell like iron/metal. The water that ran through them is yellowish in color. Is my plant making its own metal?
- Probably just vermiculite. (I probably didn't spell that right.) Comes with the soil. Not to worry. Now if it starts making gold, we will all be right over.
