- Q: I started growing herbs indoors a few weeks ago. They are in seed starter soil that I recently mixed with some good topsoil. I water them daily and have them in a sunny window. Problem is, that they seemed to have a hard time surviving and I‘m trying to troubleshoot to why.I have chives and they were growing alright, and i read that I should trim them down when they get a bit unruly, so I did and soon after they started struggling. It‘s still alive, but looking flimsy and I have strands that are dying on me. It‘s looking a little weaker everyday. I‘m also having this issue with dill. Thanks to anyone who can help!
- First, when growing plants, any plants, in pots, do not use topsoil at all. Always use a potting mix or the seed starting soil only. It's too heavy, topsoil will retain too much water and waterlog your roots, especially if you are watering on a schedule and not when the soil is dry down about an inch. Let them dry out a bit between waterings. Check the soil before you water to see that the plants actually need it. When you do water, water thoroughly so the water runs out the bottom. Discard any water that the pots may be sitting in, you don't want them sitting in water. If you can, repot, carefully, with potting soil or add sand, vermiculite or perlite to the pots to lighten it and help deal with the overwatering.
- Q: Is better draining soil in pots needed for growing my vegetable garden in? (As Im use to be American living in Ohio)
- If you're using potting mix, you don't need to ad vermiculite. The texture will be fine for containers. The nutrients last months. Most fox farm soil products use bat guano for the fertilizer. There's no precise calculation. I'd say, 2-6 months. If you're concerned about precision, you can always test the soil after 3-4 months. I start feeding my potted plants about 6 months after potting them up with fresh soil, as they never seem wanting in the period, and I'm a tightwad with my additives. For things growing in the ground, I add compost once a year. Twice for certain heavy feeders.
- Q: I‘m going to start the flowers inside and then repot them outside is Miracle grow the best soil to use?
- Basically, plant need minimum 6 hours sun-light for flowering. There are some species to grow inside. i.e. rex begonia, Balsam, Anthurium, Spathipylum. Very limited species. U could not grow flower plants inside condition. About potting mixture 50% red soil, 25% Vermicompost, 25% good leaf mold. Add 50 gm. Neem cake. Make mixture, fill the pot for 15 days, then plant into the pot. Water it. You will get the best result. ok.
- Q: .laid in or do i have to use vermiculite? obviously in the wild the eggs would be layed in the soil and left, so isn‘t this viable as long as constant temps are kept?ALSO, is it possible to tell if the eggs are fertilised or not? because i recently got my female 2/3 months ago and put her in with my male and i‘m not sure if they had much contact. They copulated once but his hemi penis didn‘t really look like it was going anywhere inside the female, does it need to do this or would it be a case of a simple ‘rub‘ thankyou for any help! :)
- the female will take no part in incubating the eggs. She trusts the soil to do that for her. The soil would have to stay a constant temp for hatching water dragon eggs. The humidity has to stay fairly constant as well. As far as care for the eggs, don't turn them. When the egg is laid the embryo inside attaches to the egg wall. If you turn or tilt the eggs too much the baby inside drowns. I would find a good web site for hatching reptile eggs and follow the directions to the word. After so many weeks of the incubation length you might be able to candle the eggs.
- Q: I am trying to propagate oleander from cuttings, but after a week no roots are visible. I used the newest growth on the plants and cut the leaves short. The cuttings are in water and the lowest sets of leaves were removed so that the nodes are in the water. They have been kept indoors in a spot that gets some indirect light. Should I have roots growing already? Also, is there a better way of doing this?
- Put in soil with vermiculite and/or sand. Start over. Dip in rooting hormone and put in soil. 3 tall cuttings of new growth are best. It could take a year on some plants to grow roots. Be sure the soil you use is sterile so nothing in it will cause rot.
- Q: I am closing on my first home next Monday and we have been in discussion with the seller, a 3rd party bank, about who should pay for removal of asbestos found during the inspection. The vermiculite insulation was found in the eaves on the 2nd floor and inbetween the drywall and studs on that floor as well. There is also floor tile that is said to contain asbestos mastic. I received 4 quotes to remove this, all which came in right around $12,000. The bank has offered us $7,000 to put toward the removal. We are going to forgo removing the tiles and just cover them with carpet. Can anyone tell me if they have been through a similar situation and if it was worth it? Should I walk away if they won‘t pay the full $12,000? I am told the tiles are not a danger to my family‘s health and are in all schools.
- I agree with Bare B above. Leaving the floor becomes a disclosure issue for you once you decide to sell. That may put you in the position of having to pay to remove it anyways to sell the house. In addition, the tiles are not a danger as long as they do not disintegrate or begin to degrade. How can you guarantee that once you cover them with carpeting the moisture from having the carpets cleaned, the pressure from moving furniture or dropping things won't create a very big problem of them deteriorating right under your feet without your knowledge? You may not even be able to find an insurer to give you homeowners insurance without exclusions. Run, do not walk away from this deal unless the bank is prepared to take total financial responsibility for this risk.
- Q: The role of vermiculite
- Agriculture, vermiculite can be used as a soil conditioner, because of its good cation exchange and adsorption, can improve soil structure, soil water storage, improve the permeability of soil and water, acidicto neutralsoil; vermiculite can also play a role of buffering, rapidchanges ofphtohinder,. Slow release fertilizer on crop growth medium, and allows a slightly excessive use of fertilizers and no harm to plants
- Q: All I have is miracle grow and Ive seen cacuts growing out side here where I live but I would like an experts opinion..... Help Me Please
- I incubate ALL my eggs in vermiculite and have never had any issues. Just make sure it is JUST vermiculite with no additives - I tell my Lowe's people what I'm using it for an STRESS to them that any additives in the vermiculite will kill my babies!
- Q: Well my two normals had their first clutches a few week back. Ones due the first of june and the other the 17th of June. I have a couple of questions that i cant seem to find anywhere. First off the first clutch which was a total of 8 large eggs. I wasnt able to catch when they were first laid so the are all stacked together. My concern is when its time for them to hatch the egg on the bottom, will it be able to get out? also is it normal for the eggs to get a slight greyish color where the vermiculite touches them? all the eggs when candled show veins so there all ok yet.My last question is should i slit the eggs or not? and if i should when should i do so?
- i would use Vermiculite Fiberglass infused paint to bond with the fiber glass and offer proper heat protection
- Q: I‘ve bought some snapdragon, columbine, and carnation seeds and am going to plant them this weekend.I hope to be really good at gardening someday and to have a ‘green thumb.‘ So, any of you great gardeners out there, could you offer me some tips and things you learned? Maybe the first things I should know about gardening and growing? Thank-you so much!!
